Democratic voter registration surges in Oregon
Source: Oregonian

The Democrats are coming. And they are coming in force.

A surge in Democratic voter registration that began earlier this year is peaking as Oregon nears the Tuesday deadline to register for the May 20 primary. Oregon's contest could be crucial in deciding whether Sen. Hillary Clinton or Sen. Barack Obama will win the Democratic nomination for president.

Oregon Democrats, who began the year with about 70,000 more registered voters than Republicans, have doubled that advantage, which stood Friday at 826,984 Democrats to 685,344 Republicans.

The trend of soaring Democratic registration and essentially flat Republican registration has been happening across the state, from heavily Democratic Multnomah County to such GOP strongholds as Jackson County in southern Oregon. Jackson County still has more registered Republicans than Democrats, but the GOP lead there has been cut by almost 4,000 voters.

1. Our local clerk's office says they are swamped. That's in Wasco County which has
been a reliable Repub stronghold for years. Maybe we really do have a chance to get rid of Gordon Smith!!

2. How many are cross over repugs have registered as dems ?
hmmmm.

This all smacks of voter fraud imo if a massive defection on election day is noted by "THE EXIT POLLS"

3. I don't see it. I would say it's a lot of formerly unaffiliated voters
and new voters who have signed up as Democrats to have a voice in the primary. And I think that voice is going to be shouting "Obama!" on May 20.

13. I sure hope you are right...I live in a red-neck area and at my
coffee shop we have a table of these nuts...they were talking about registering to vote for hillary and then re register.

18. I was an unaffliliated voter
(they call it "OTH" here) that re-registered Dem, so that I could vote for Steve Novick for senator.

The republics in my neck of the woods are awfully quiet these days. Many that I have spoken w/are NOT pleased about McLame.

Bill Clinton is making a massive run through Oregon. He was in my community last night. Of the four people interviewed at the event, one was for McLame, one for Hillary Clinton and two for Obama.

4. I really
think this Repug cross-over thing isn't much of a story. The average person has better things to do with their time and energy than go to all the trouble of switching their registrations back-and-forth because some wack-job like Limbaugh says so.

35. Well, there was an effort to do that in other states. Have not heard of any effort...
for the upcoming states, though.

It really is over, so maybe that's why Limpballs isn't doing Operation Chaos for OR and KY. Not that I've heard, anyway.

28. I agree... No one bothers to do what Limbaugh say....
Most people would not bother to change the party just to do what this not-very-smart guy said. I think he just wanted the publicity and rating.

6. Oregon went blue in 2004, after another (almost) four years of
bush hell, I doubt that it'll be going red anytime soon. Of course, that's my very optimistic humble opinion.

30. Greens earned over 5.5% of the vote in 2000
Whereas in 2004, there wasn't a strong Green candidate and Nader wasn't on the Oregon ballot, so most of those votes went to Kerry.

36. Yeah, hilary knows all about voter fraud when rush limpbaughs
ordered his dittodipsticks to change registration and vote for her in Texas, Ohio, and Indiana 'cause they'd much rather run against her than Obama. Too bad that shit didn't work.

7. And by the way,
As of a couple of months ago, the Oregon GOP was bankrupt. Not just morally, but financially. This story makes my day. It boosts my hopes of getting rid of Gordon Smith, which is my not so secret dream this cycle....

12. And I hope they vote this shill, gordon smith, OUT of office.
He was a lock step repug until the election cycle comes up, and then he looks like a rebel. What a sack of shit. I remember when he took office, and he was nothing more than a corporate profit mongering shill then.

Some things never change. This is one congressman that we can change to the Democratic Party. Come on Oregon....don't let the country down!

Slime & Slimess

This is real, I have a few friends in Oregon witnessing this.

Bill is in Oregon. A possible meeting with her? Caring only about the numbers -- meaningless numbers. Cynical? Maybe yes, but knowing the Clintons would that come as a surprise?

Hopefully over by then. For sure, allow Oregonians to vote...let the delegate votes add up.
