Crude Up (spike nearly 3%) on Report of Shots in Persian Gulf
Source: Dow Jones Newswires

NEW YORK (Dow Jones) -- U.S. Navy security aboard a commercial ship in the Persian Gulf fired warning shots at two Iranian fast boats approaching the vessel Thursday, Fox News reported Friday.

Fox News described the ship as a contract vessel delivering cargo to the U.S. military in Kuwait. The incident happened about 50 miles off the coast of Iran, and the Iranian boats were about 100 yards from the ship when they were fired on with small-arms weapons, according to Fox News.

Crude futures spiked nearly 3% to $119 a barrel on the news. Oil was already up following the latest attack on a Shell pipeline in Nigeria and a strike that cut Exxon Mobil's output from the West African nation.

10. Actually, the MSM is making us pay at the pump by alerting the oil companies they have another
"silver platter story" reason to jack the prices.

Maybe the mullahs in Iran needed the exposure to relieve the embargo pressure and raise some oil revenue returns for their population ?

nahhh
EU will only jack up the price of gasoline they send to Iran b/c of this incident imo.

It's just a knee jerk reaction the mindless story hungry MSM wanted -> turning a molehill into a....tsunami ;)

5. Notice how Dow Jones cites Fox News now
Back when Dow Jones was at least a respectable news operation, this wouldn't have happened.

8. My hunch tells me -
the Persian Gulf is where the next REAL battle begins. Remember back about 2 months ago. The US got entangled with some tiny boats in the Gulf, apparently they were getting ready to drop some bombs on them. It was a huge news event, with a jittery absolutely paranoid U.S. ready to pull out the heavy artillery.

Later, it was found that the whole event was fabricated - at least the "danger" was. The Iranians provided a film which was a huge embarrassment to the U.S.

~ here we go again ~

US contracted ship fires warning shots

The U.S. military has been wary of small boats operating near its ships since an explosive-laden vessel rammed the USS Cole as it refueled off Yemen in 2000, killing 17 sailors.

The Navy said it does not know whether the two boats that approached the Western Venture cargo ship on Thursday were from Iran.

I remember seeing the video and audio US navy provided as they transited the straits. If small boats want to play chicken, fine. As maritime law states, certain vessels will chase the small boats off as deemed necessary ;)
just keep the camera's uploading to the net

12. I'm wondering...
Somewhere in the back of my mind, I imagine one of those hedge-fund managers--the one who makes a kabillion dollars a year--investing in oil and then placing a little call to the Persian Gulf...
