Dems Plead With Bush on Iraq
Source: AP

Democratic leaders told President Bush on Friday that it's not too late to change course in Iraq and pleaded with him not to hand the war off to the next president.

"We believe there is still time for you to recognize that a change in strategy is necessary to repair the grave damage done to our nation's security," the Democrats wrote.

. . .

"This strategy is neither sustainable nor in our broader national security or economic interest," they said.

The letter was signed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Maryland, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, and Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin of Illinois.

The party in the majority begging an unpopular lame duck POTUS.

We need a new political system.

1. I'm not sure I see the point of this letter
After all, we know that Bush doesn't care what anyone else thinks, nor does he have a desire to listen to rational argument.

3. I expect it is their attempt to have the record reflect
that Bush has done and is planning to do nothing but coast for the entire year while the Bush occupation rages on.

However, the language Dems use is so conciliatory that what they mean to state just sounds like begging.

Where is their courage? Their integrity? Their freaking anger? Oh, I forgot. It's hard to have those when you're wearing a Pink Tutu.

"Can you please end the war, Daddy Dubya? Please? Pretty please?"

7. Get Off Your Knees and Wipe That Spittle from Your Chins!
Act like leadership for God's sake. I know this is AP's perspective but it sure looks this way already to most of us who had to endure their enabling behavior. It's sickening.... afraid of an evil cowardly rich bunch of sociopathic frat boys and girls with raisons for brains. I'm sure Adams, Washington, Jefferson, Franklin and the rest of our forefathers would be puking up in their own mouths if they had to watch this shit.

12. Amazing!
This letter has on it some of the biggest roadblock-to-impeachment democrats. I suppose they must figure that Bush will do them a favor on it for being so darned nice in not pursuing impeachment.

What a bunch of stupid schmucks.

13. Maybe...
They figure a scale back on the Iraq thing will take it off the table increasing Hilary's chances of getting the nod by making the election less about the war. Perhaps they think that Bush will do it to increase the odds of McCain going up against a democrat percieved as being easier to beat. Of course without the war the issues are all economy and job loss and those actually hurt McCain.

We cannot legally make Iraq pay for reconstruction with their natural resources. That part of international law hasn't changed.
