Bush booed loudly while throwing out first pitch in Nationals home opener
Source: Think Progress and Yahoo

President Bush delivered the first pitch tonight at the new Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. to a resounding chorus of boos. After being announced, Bush was showered by boos as he strode to the mound. Even after delivering the pitch, the jeering did not let up until Bush disappeared from the field.

and...
Bush, a sports fan in general and a baseball buff in particular, soaked it in, although some of the fans in attendance booed him.

95. Yet the WaPo today,
which covered the opening game of the stadium as if it were the Second Coming, only mentioned two protestors *outside* with a sign reading "Boo Bush". They *never* mentioned the actual booing that happened. I await letters to the Editor from people who were there, and the inevitable lame response by their ombudsman.

128. According to a caller to the Tom Sullivan show today...
... they were only booing the President because the extra security required by the CoC's visit made it take a long time to get into the stadium, and it was cold, and people were tired.

It's not like the crowd there had any idea they were booing the biggest war criminal since the Nuremburg trials, they were just mad at hime for screwing up the normal park entry procedure.

At least, that was the caller's take on the situation.

I mocked up the Oz takeoff pic myself a couple of weeks ago, downloaded it to my bands website and posted it in my signature line here on DU. I need to get my nephew to do a better photo-shop version next time he drops by later this week. Of course if ya know any photo-shoppers here on DU feel free to get them on it !! :) Yea a bumper sticker would be nice  ..... bet by the time I got it on my car Hillary would quit like the next day though ... not that that would be a bad thing !!!

Feel free to pass this little one around, use it ..... and if I get a larger version done I'll let ya know. Peace. :hi:

I did a little Googling and found some interesting stuff.
There are at least three, probably more, bands with the name 'Surrender Dorothy'
Is yours one of them?

Also, did you know:
The special effect was achieved by using a hypodermic needle, spreading black ink across the bottom of a glass tank filled with tinted water.

Anyway - THANKS!
:hi:

edited to add:
- - just went to your link and it's a very good website. I'll be telling my sister, who lives out your way, to check it out too.

That special effects trivia is cool, I didn't know that. Big Wizard of Oz fan myself ..... oh boy guess I'll have to put it in the DVD player again this week sometime. Have a great day cyberpj! Peace.

52. How often does Dumbya risk being exposed to an unscreened crowd?
He probably figured that baseball fans would be firmly within the 19% of Republics still cheering for his Residency. Guess he should have stayed away from any exposure to the "common" people in the cheap seats.

81. Football fans are probably more likely to continue
supporting Bush and the Republicans. Working class people can still get into baseball games. They may not have the best seats or best views, but the prices have not yet gotten so expensive that working people can't go to one or two games a year (for a family).

Football, on the other hand, is way outside the price point where working people can afford it. To attend a St Louis Rams game this past year cost $35 for a cheap ticket.

94. most of the football fans I know are Dems
In most NFL cities, the franchise tries hard to cultivate a blue-collar image that resonates well with union members and other working folks. Even Jerome Bettis, a former Steelers running back who is known to donate to Republicans, jumped at the chance to appear side-by-side with Obama.

25. That's called a "mixed reaction"
I hate to burst people's bubbles, but that is not booing. Yes, there were some people in the crowd audibly booing, but I'd say the majority were cheering--Keep in mind that "boo" carries further audibly than a cheer. I'm going to hope that they were cheering the office, and not the man. (It's baseball, surely we can have some fun and put politics to the side?)

41. You had me kind of agreeing until the end
of your post. We can't have fun with a baseball season opener (and debut of a new ballpark) and put politics to the side.

Shrub has made millions of people miserable everyday for the past 7 years. The people of the DC area keep up with his antics more than the American population generically...so when presented a chance to express their feelings towards him...he got booed.

Yes I could hear several cheers as well. The best part of all is shrub hurried out to the mound, immediately threw the pitch (a horrible one at that), then scampered away. When faced with the reaction of a group that isn't pre-screened...he got an earful.

I would have been booing myself, as loud as humanly possible. But I'm not upset if the person behind me cheers, it's not something I will get worked up about at a baseball game.

130. well, I was at the game, and it was pretty evenly divided
A lot of people didn't boo or cheer, at least not in the section where I was sitting. There was an ebb and flow to the cheering/booing. And I agree that a lot of people were cheering the occasion, not the man.

34. As Braves fans, we were watching and heard it!
It was pretty definitive...the boos sounded louder than the cheers; then you could hear the people cheering up the volume, which of course made the people booing boo louder. It was hard to tell what the split of boos/cheers was, but I'd guess 70/30 at least, since our TV is set with the treble up a bit more than the bass; cheering tends to register more loudly I think, probably due to the way the words are pronounced and the most common range of notes used when sounding the words.

We loved it, we were booing too!

From the video, either someone toned down the boos, or they were intermittent. He's a better pitcher than president--which really isn't saying much, but at least he got it over the plate.

which was disappointing.

I am looking at living overseas when I retire from the military this summer. To borrow a phrase from helmut-head (Trent Lott) "we can support the troops without supporting the President". How true!

Long after I finish wearing the uniform I will support the members of the military regardless of what they are told/brainwashed.

46. It was funny timing
The ESPN Radio announcers had just gone over a WaPo article on the history of Presidents throwing 1st pitches, and talked about Truman being booed because opening day was the week after he'd fired MacArthur. So I'm figuring "hmm..opening night.. probably a wealthier crowd.. nah, they won't boo... wonder if there'll be some kind of protest." Nexxt thing I know, it sounded like an opposing manager going to the mound. Not the loud booing, like when your star player gets beaned, but a lot of booing, nonetheless.

I actually got to the news editor and corrected him. He was a bit shocked until I said with Bush's approval numbers were in the teens- who am I going to believe (also called a friend at the game and they said it was distinctive booing). "If you can't be trusted on the small things how can I trust you on the big things." was the parting shot.

I was at the game last night and although the booing was loud it was not overwhelming. 2 of the people I was with turned their backs when he came out to the mound. People came to see the new park and he is just a giant distraction. We had to go through a metal detector and even the uniformed secret service guys thought all the security was overdone. He arrived about an hour before the game and you should have seen how many cars are in his motorcade. Talk about a waste of gasoline.

If all this murderous piece of shit ever has to fear is being publicly booed, I think he'll be just fine.

He doesn't care one whit about what we think. And considering he will never have to answer for anything he's done, he doesn't have to.

He, and his criminal administration have gotten away with everything they have set out to do. They have done untold damage to this country, this planet, and have committed countless crimes. And they continue to do so every day. Illegal, Unjust Wars, Looted treasury, Destroyed Economy, over 4000 soldiers dead for no reason, 1,000,000 dead Iraqi's for no reason, shredded Constitution and Civil Liberties, Torture as Official Policy, Domestic Spying, a burgeoning Police State, Hurricane Katrina, and on, and on, and on, and ON.

And we'll be lucky if they don't start yet another war before they are done.

And they will never be held accountable.

If we are lucky, they will actually LEAVE POWER in January of 2009.

And then they will head off into the sunset.

Scott Free.

I know this post will offend, and I apologize in advance to those it offends. It's bitter, it's cynical, and yes, it's pissing on a moment. I'm just really feeling the hate this evening. And feeling the incredible and incredulous depressing disdain at the realization that they ARE GOING TO GET OFF SCOTT FREE.

But this man and his merry band of criminals have pissed on our country, and pissed away our future for generations to come.

And they are going to get away with it.

This man should be in PRISON. Not throwing baseballs.

But at least he got booed.

Small victories, right?
