Court Turns Down Anti-Clinton Group
Source: NYT/AP

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Published: March 24, 2008

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Supreme Court has rejected an appeal from a conservative group that wants to promote its anti-Hillary Clinton movie without complying with campaign finance laws.

The court's decision Monday leaves in place a lower court ruling that says the group, Citizens United, must attach a disclaimer and disclose its donors in order to run the ads.

The group says the issue will be important whether or not Clinton wins the Democratic presidential nomination. It plans a movie critical of Sen. Barack Obama if he should be the nominee.

I wasn't a regular poster until recently, and not being greatly computer savy there's still stuff that I'm missing. I'd really appreciate it if you'd explain what the n/t means.

Thanks much,

6. Hahahaha
Anyways. This is a good thing. In my opinion you shouldn't be able to donate to both a 527 and a candidate.

8. Good!
Force the little cockroaches into the bright light of day. Neither Hillary or Barack should be subjected to this nonsense by these senseless hacks.

9. so basically this is an attempt to advertise?
without claiming it's a political ad and abiding by those rules? So someone could make a 10 minute, $100 movie and then advertise it all over during primetime trashing a candidate but claiming it's just advertising a movie, not political. Wow. Glad this is smacked down.

11. Here's a little more about it, in case you need a good laugh
http://www.citizensunited.org/

The cast to end all casts includes: Dick Morris, Ann Coulter, Newt Gingrich, Jeff Gerth, Buzz Patterson, Michael Barone, Billy Dale, Cyrus Nowrasteh, Tony Blankley, Dick Armey, Bay Buchanan, Joe Connor, Mark Levin, Frank Gaffney, Peter Paul, Gary Aldrich, Dan Burton, John Mica, Michael Medved, Kathleen Willey, Kate O’Beirne, Larry Kudlow and more!

In other words, the usual gang of idiots.

The hilarious irony in all this is that Citizens United's goal is to "restore the government to citizen control." To do this, they make really shitty "documentaries," including one by thrice-married philanderer Newt Gingrich about "rediscovering God in America." They also have an anti-ACLU film, as well as that modern-day classic "Celsius 41.11."

The guy in charge of CU is notorious RW shitheel David Bossie:

David N. Bossie is the president of conservative non profit Citizens United. In 1992 he started work there as director of political affairs.

He was chief investigator for the Whitewater hearings held by U. S. Senator Lauch Faircloth, and was an investigator for Representative Dan Burton (R-IN), the chairman of the House investigation into alleged Clinton campaign finance abuses.

He has been sharply criticized by both Democrats and Republicans. James Carville said of him, "he made collective fools out of about 80 percent of the national press corps." President George Bush urged citizens not to support his campaigns, saying, "We will do whatever we can to stop any filthy campaign tactics" in a newsletter to 85,000 Republican contributors. Bush also filed a complaint with the Federal Elections Commission regarding one TV advertisement.

In early May of 1998, Bossie was fired for selectively editing and releasing to media the transcripts of prison conversations of former Clinton administration official Webster Hubbell that created the impression that Hillary Clinton was involved in billing irregularities at the Rose Law Firm where she and Hubbell both worked.
