Top court tackles Gitmo (Canada)
Source: Toronto Star

The Supreme Court of Canada has agreed to hear arguments about the legality of the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo, where Canadian Omar Khadr is being held.

The high court ruled yesterday that it could consider submissions on whether Guantanamo violates international law, dismissing the federal government's objections that the Canadian courts were not the place to examine the actions of the United States.

......

The Supreme Court has already scheduled a hearing for Wednesday, in which the central questions are whether Khadr's lawyers are entitled to evidence from Canada that could help in his defence at Guantanamo and if the Canadian officials who travelled to the base to interrogate him in 2003 and 2004 breached his constitutional rights.

But in hearing arguments about whether Khadr's rights were violated in Guantanamo, the court agreed in its unanimous ruling yesterday that it could consider the actions of American officials and the conditions at the U.S. Navy base in Cuba, which in essence also puts Guantanamo Bay on trial.

1. Oh no! What's that rumbling coming out the Bush Administration? Canada a terrorist nation?
Canada grouped with the axis of evil: Korea, Syria, Iran, Venezuela (and all others who do not genuflect before the great fearless warmonger)?

the longest unfortified border in the world. Our only escape now will be to Mexico where we can work in place of those who come up here to work.

Oh, how far the mighty have fallen.

6. You forgot Ecuador...
And France. And Argentina. --the countries trying to get hostages released, and bring about a peaceful settlement of Colombia's 40+ year civil war, along with Venezuela.

Terrorist-lovers! They had a hard time calling Venezuela and Ecuador "terrorist-lovers," without calling France--and its rightwing president--"terrorist-lovers"--but, in the end, they just ignored that rather big hole in their accusations, and didn't hesitate to leave France out of it, and go after the countries whose oil they lust after, and whom they are plotting against.

But, mark my words, France and Canada will be next. And England! Don't forget that an English court just ruled against Exxon Mobile in its vicious effort to destabilize Venezuela by freezing $12 billion of Venezuela's assets.

England, that "terrorist-loving" monarchy!

It's the "Caine Mutiny" all over again, ain't it? Only writ large. An entire government gone bonkers with paranoia.

USA "unsigned" its position with the ICC during Clinton's presidency.

This will be important to see how this transpires.

But remember, Kadr was only 15 at the time

And, they shot him in the BACK!
