US Military Deaths in Iraq at 3,987

As of Friday, March 14, 2008, at least 3,987 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. The figure includes eight military civilians. At least 3,241 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military's numbers.

The AP count is 9 more than the Defense Department's tally, last updated Friday at 10 a.m. EDT.

The latest identifications reported by the military:

_ Army Staff Sgt. Laurent J. West, 32, Raleigh, N.C.; died Tuesday near Kishkishkia, of wounds suffered when his vehicle struck an explosive; assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

3. Plus the other group of fatalities....
Those who have died in Afghanistan. We never even mention those and I hate that. I know there are more dead in Iraq, but so many have died in that "other war" too.
