Weapons Experts Setting Up Bases in Libya

By GEORGE JAHN
Associated Press Writer

VIENNA, Austria (AP) -- Teams from the United Nations, the United States and Britain are secretly setting up bases in Libya for the purpose of scrapping Tripoli's weapons of mass destruction, diplomats said Tuesday.

The diplomats said on condition of anonymity that U.S. and British weapons experts - including specialists on nuclear, chemical and biological weapons - began arriving this past weekend. They also said members of a separate team from the International Atomic Energy Agency - the U.N. nuclear watchdog - were gathering in Tripoli, the Libyan capital. (snip)

After Libya volunteered last month to give up its chemical, biological and nuclear weapons or weapons programs, experts from the IAEA, United States and Britain went to Tripoli to take inventory and discuss the details of their destruction. But there was disagreement over who would oversee the scrapping of Libya's nuclear program.

That squabble appeared resolved Monday after IAEA chief Mohamed ElBaradei met U.S. Undersecretary of State John Bolton, a critic of the IAEA policy on Libya, and William Ehrman, Bolton's British counterpart.

it is John Bolton. He is right below Perle, Wolfowitz, Norton, *, and a few others.

The guy even said "Cuba" wants WMD

A little info:

John Bolton

As Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, Mr. Bolton is the top US non-proliferation official. Prior ro this appointment, Bolton was senior vice president of the neoconservative think tank American Enterprise Institute. He has held a variety of government posistions in both the George HW Bush and Ronald Reagan administrations.

Bolton has often made claims not fully supported by intelligence community. In a controversial May, 2002 speech to the conservative Heritage Foundation entitled, "Beyond the Axis of Evil," Bolton fingered Libya, Syria, and Cuba as "other rogue states intent on acquiring weapons of mass destruction."

In June 2003 Bolton testified to a congressional committee that the US has long see indicications that Iran is developing a nucler weapons program. In July 2003, the CIA and other agencies reportedly objected strongly to claims Bolton made in a draft assessment about the progressSyria has made in its weapons programs.

I have a feeling we will be seeing more of him this year.
