Clark Vows to Protect Black Electorate
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A30163-2004Jan19.html

While most of his Democratic rivals awaited results in Iowa on Monday, Wesley K. Clark flew to South Carolina, where he celebrated Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday and appealed for black votes.

At a rally on the steps of the state capitol, Clark aimed his sharpest remarks at President Bush, assailing him for visiting King's grave last week, then having the "audacity" to appoint Charles W. Pickering Sr. to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, based in New Orleans. Pickering, Clark said, is "anti-civil rights, anti-voting rights, anti-justice."

The retired Army general referred to the 2000 presidential election and the midterm election here two years later, saying that he would seek to protect the voting rights of blacks, who he said were "intimidated when they showed up to vote."

1. Clark should mobilize veterans

Clark should mobilize fellow veterans to monitor polling sites in Tennessee where black folk were turned away last time around. The Democrats need to make a pro-active assault against Jim Crowe efforts across the South to prevent a repeat of 2000.

3. Clark's MLK speech today was the best speech I've heard since
MLK (and Rev Jeffries in Seattle :)).

A masterpiece.

4. I would like to see
Clark say: "My first task in office is to make sure any polling irregularities or harassment of Black voters will be fully investigated and legal action taken where needed."

5. Clark
has already stated that.......I would link you to his voting policy issue...but the site just crashed.

Also, that's why Mary Frances Berry endorsed the man. You know, the gal that run the U.S. civil rights commission.
