At least 10 tornadoes rip through Florida and Georgia
Source: Reuters

CAPITOLA, Florida (Reuters) - Tornadoes cut through Florida and Georgia on Friday, blowing homes off foundations, felling power lines and snapping majestic oak trees as a record series of winter tornadoes continued to pound the United States.

The National Weather Service had preliminary reports of at least 10 tornadoes that flipped cars, damaged homes and interrupted power supplies in northern Florida and southern Georgia. Minor injuries were reported, but no deaths.

Florida resident Joe Thornton said had left for work when he got a call that a tornado had ripped through his house in Capitola, near the state capital Tallahassee.

He returned home to find pieces of his neighbor's metal roof wrapped around his trees. His mules, Curly and Ella, were covered in grass and broken twigs and were grumpy but unhurt.

9. I've wondered whether the world is getting breezier.
It's seemed that way to me for the past couple of years, but I've seen no statistics.

Is it too much to hope for--that global warming might actually increase useful wind resources?

10. We also were under one here in North Carolina this morning.
Same- NOAA let me know all about it. As I grumbled while shutting the radio off, DH said to go back to sleep. In my infinite 4am wisdom, I mumbled "If I'm sleeping, how do I watch?"

4. Operative word ...
Climate *Change* ... every one I've talked to (here at work) has agreed that this winter has been pretty brutal. A Star Tribune article reported, as of 21 February, a "recent streak" of below zero temperatures was at 21 days. We've had more sub-zero days/nights since then.

I mean I know it's Minnesota ... but jeeze! I went to get in my car today and thought "... hmmm ... it's not so bad out for a change." Got in my car which has an outdoor temperature gauge and it was 7-degrees. 7! Now the forcast for as soon as Wednesday is 45-degrees. No wonder seemingly everyone in the damned state has a cold.

8. I've turned my heat down to *45*-degrees in my house!
I have a large 5-bedroom house, my heating bill is still at least $250/month ... during this cold snap it's been upwards of $350. Ugh.

(Note: I have a space heater in my bedroom and the bathroom.)
