McCain now has challenge of staying in public eye
Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON, March 6 (Reuters) - Now that he has clinched the Republican presidential nomination, John McCain has to figure out how to remain in the public eye while attention is diverted to the tense Democratic battle.

The danger is that the epic struggle between Democrats Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton over their party's presidential nomination will dominate the news and turn McCain into a side issue.

It is a subject that concerns McCain's advisers, but they believe they will be able to keep sufficient focus on the Arizona senator while at the same time raise some much needed campaign cash and work on bringing the Republican Party together behind him.

"You have to be concerned about it," said senior McCain adviser Charlie Black. "But I think the answer is we have to go out and make news."

Whenever I hear a Republican saying they're going to go out and make news, I get a knot in my stomach.

2. This is why I thikn that dems staying in until the convention could work in our favor
people talk about how it's going to divide the party. I honestly don't think that will be the case once the nominee is decided. I do think, however, that us continuing to get real media coverage makes us look good.

3. Lucky for us
McCain doesn't have the power to issue orders to bomb some country... But you just know he'd love to do just that to keep himself in the news.

4. bush should let him move into the white house now
and mccain can be by his side every day between now and the election.

My favorite line so far. Elect mccain, give bush a third term.

7. He is going to Europe now, totally out of sight, out of mind
and then will give some kind of a speech -- about foreign affairs -- at the end of March. Great way to render himself irrelevant while Clinton and Obama are in the news every day; let's hope in a good way, and while it's the economy, stupid...
