Obama Campaign Raises $55 Million In February
By Greg Sargent - March 6, 2008, 2:26PM

In an extraordinary haul, the Obama campaign confirms that it raised an astonishing $55 million in February.

More than $45 million of it was raised online.

Woah.

Remember, when the Hillary campaign announced they'd raised in the neighborhood of $36 million for the month, the Obama camp played it close to the vest, saying only that they'd raised "considerably more." They held off on releasing the figures until now -- after the March 4th voting -- which prompted speculation that they were hoping to release the numbers to either shift the story away from Hillary's victories or put a final nail in the Hillary campaign's coffin had she not had an impressive showing.

Whatever their reasons for holding off until now, it's an extraordinary pull.

8. I think that's why the Obama camp held off on the announcement
until today. It takes some of the wind out of that announcement of hers. Makes it look like a temporary blip.

I've noticed that they like to time good news announcements in order to make best use of them. Smart.

seriously, $55 MILLION in one month. He clearly can raise the cash. Hillary raised a lot also, but it's certainly 20 mil short!

5. That's huge, but we can't let him be outraised by you know who...
I'll say this for the Clinton Machine, they were obviously able to bully the media into covering her from a very non-critical position. I realize a lot of this is about the media wanting a horserace, but she has received a lot of media attention, and she's taking full advantage of it.

6. the campaign is very clever at getting free publicity...
like phony outrage over Chelsea being "called a name" by an obviously egotistical, self-serving media person. belittling Obama for wanting to focus on one on one contact instead of phony debates. let me count the ways, and the "media" thinks they are so smart.... it's a cluster you know what, more, more of the same. They're all afraid of losing power.

10. maybe they get the media but they don't win the people.
To me it's a negative to be seen whining about media coverage. It's a pattern--they do it a lot, and people don't like whiners. Only committed Clintonites give them a pass for such behavior.

14. i agree with you & polispeak....
I've heard several talk show hosts mention that it almost seems that these attacks on them have been coordinated by the campaign. Angry callers, screaming at the host, for some perceived Hillary slight. Jeff Farias said that he had received threats of violence from Hillary supporters. And a lot of them sound as if they're reading from a script, where every one of them tries to slip in some hearsay about Rezko.

16. LOL.
Yea the script always starts with... "the person's name is Rezko R-E-Z-K-O go to the Chicago Tribune, or Suntimes" I'm from Chicago and this is really a non issue. I don't understand why this keeps coming up. The person that really should be worried is the IL govonor not Obama. I hope he opens up and reveals all the details in time so this clears things up, but then again Obama will be Obama.

9. That works out to $1,896,551.70 per DAY!!
Edited on Thu Mar-06-08 04:48 PM by ginnyinWI
If you multiply it to match HRC's two days, it is $3,793,103,40. But it's sustained over a whole month.
