Jena 6 defendant facing assault charge
Source: Associated Press

CARROLLTON, Texas - A defendant in the Louisiana "Jena Six" case was arrested after allegedly slamming a student's head into a bench at his new school in Texas, police said.

The defendant, Bryant R. Purvis, 19, was arrested on a charge of assault causing bodily injury Wednesday after an altercation at Hebron High School. It began because Purvis believed a student had flattened his tires, Sgt. John Singleton said.

Purvis was released from jail Thursday morning.

According to a police report, the student felt Purvis come behind him and "grab his neck with one hand and begin to choke him." Purvis then said, "Don't you ever mess with my car again" and slammed the student's head into the bench of a table and walked away, the report said. The student's left eye was injured, but Singleton didn't know whether he needed medical attention after seeing the school nurse.

2. When the black community rallies behind criminals it tends to hurt more than help the cause.

3. If it hadn't been for the disproportionate sentencing there would have been nothing to rally around

While the attempted murder charge was unfair it did seem to gray out the fact that the thugs cold-cocked a bystander and beat him unconscious. Regardless of how certain groups wanted to spin it that's far from routine assault.

It really shouldn't be a shock to anyone that at least one of the "6" would be in trouble again for violent conduct towards another human being.

4. It seems ...
you missed the over arching sentiment that struck an accord between those who rallied for the Jena 6. Everyone, and I mean everyone with ANY contact with the criminal justice system knows and is fully aware that it is broken. Broken in the sense that, young black males regularly face long sentences or life sentences and likes for charges that their white peers walk away from.

The prosecutor in this case used tennis shoes to tie the Jena 6 to gang laws and then tried these juveniles in adult court to obtain a possible sentence of 22 years in prison.

When you compare the daily feed of criminality in this country from sun up to sun down starting from the WH, Wallstreet, subprime mortgages, healthcare fraud, to local official scandals and the likes who DO NOT go to jail. And, then you see ‘our’ judicial system decides to get tough on crime in the instance of a black juvenile, maybe, you can reflect for a moment and understand the outrage.

If you do not understand the Jena 6 outcry, you will not understand the utter absurdity of the ‘Liberty 7’ either.
