French President and Ex-Model Wed
Source: NY Times

"French President Nicolas Sarkozy married former model Carla Bruni on Saturday at the Elysee Palace, according to the official who performed the ceremony.

''The bride wore white; she was ravishing, as usual,'' Francois Lebel, mayor of Paris' eighth arrondissement, or neighborhood, told Europe-1 radio. ''The groom wasn't bad either.''

It was a historic occasion, ''the first time in the history of the Republic that a president has gotten married in office,'' as Lebel said.

Sarkozy, 53, and Bruni, 40, were married in the presence of about 20 close family and friends, Lebel said. He called the ceremony ''a moment of family intimacy for the young newlyweds, of great simplicity and apparently a lot of affection between the spouses."

1. It's remarkable what a LOSER the French elected. I mean, he's not an evil mental retard like Bush.
But he's dumb as a bag of rocks, shallow, pointless and a waste of French taxpayer money. I'm sure the French are regretting it now.

3. 3 months - and she ain't no star-gazed bimbo - she has talent

Because model is so often used as a synonym for moron, few have stopped to consider that, in pure résumé terms, Carla Bruni may be better equipped than many for a gig at Élysée Palace.

For starters, she is a stepdaughter of an Italian tire magnate and classical composer, Alberto Bruni Tedeschi, who is married to her mother, Marisa Borini, a concert pianist. She is rich and well educated (in France, where her family moved in the 1970s to escape a wave of kidnappings in Italy) and speaks three languages.

After she aged out of her career as one of the most highly paid models of the 1990s, with campaigns for Dior and Chanel and some 250 magazine covers to her credit, she became a musician, a transition less surprising when one considers her heritage and past relationships.

Her first album of breathy emotive music, set mostly to acoustic guitar was released in 2003 and quickly became a success. “Quelqu’un m’a dit” (“Someone Told Me”) produced a best-selling single, sold over a million copies in France, another 300,000 outside the country and in 2004 garnered Ms. Bruni the French equivalent of a Grammy as the country’s best female vocalist.

http://www.carlabruni.com/en/carla.html
Her website has a part of her song, "Those Dancing days Are Gone" as you enter the site. One of my favorite Bruni songs.

Carla Bruni is incredible - and very beautiful.

They will be tabloid fodder for years.

13. Incidentally, King Hussein of Jordan married Queen Noor
after a whirlwind courtship. She was a young American woman named Lisa Halaby and he was an older man, married several times before. Yet they lasted til he died, rather happily, it seems, and she gained the respect of the Jordanian people.

So it can be done.

17. Ppl I know in Paris say almost everyone in France HATES him
They find him utterly classless and tasteless and find him a HUGE embarrassment. They think as badly of her -- er, I think its the word 'putain' that they often use? Basically, a man-eater with a huge laundry-list of conquests.

Not that the NY TImes mentions it of course but this is all well-known there -- she was living with publisher Jean-Paul Enthoven when she started an affair with his married son, Raphaël, and later had his child. Raphaël Enthoven was at the time was married to novelist Justine Lévy, daughter of philosopher Bernard-Henri Lévy. (Justine Lévy a few yrs back wrote a best-seller based on this where she describes the woman who steals the main character's husband, as "a praying mantis" with "a Terminator smile".)

Bruni was also romantically involved with Former French PM Laurent Fabius and Donald Trump aside from Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton and others I forget at the moment....
