LA Times Endorses Obama
Source: LA Times Online

"Democrats preparing to vote in Tuesday's California primary can mark their ballots with confidence, knowing that either candidate would make a strong nominee and, if elected, a groundbreaking leader and capable president. But just because the ballot features two strong candidates does not mean that it is difficult to choose between them. We urge voters to make the most of this historic moment by choosing the Democrat most focused on steering the nation toward constructive change: We strongly endorse Barack Obama."

Obama had a mighty good day in California today with this endorsement, plus the 600,000 person SEIU union getting behind him as well. Hilary is going to need to do very well in NY to offset a likely Obama win in California.

5. Corporate media...
pushing for votes....Come on California...just vote for who you really think is the ideal candidate...don't follow L.A. Times, Oprah, Streisand, Clooney, Affleck,etc....just vote smart...weigh the pro and cons of Obama and Hillary....then decide...No matter who the Dem candidate turns out to be..just make sure you vote Dem '08...No Repig politics..all they do is ruin this great country of ours...haven't we Americans suffered enough for the past 7 years?...

19. Nope, they haven't endorsed, period.
They haven't endorsed any presidential candidate, in a primary or general election, since 1972. That makes this endorsement even bigger news. :)

23. It's been a long time since California was seen as a pivotal vote in any primary.
Usually, it's not nearly as close at this point.

24. Well, California's primary was always in June...
...which is why the state has never been a popular place for primary election campaigns.

Guess after that they just didn't bother so...

But it is nice to see they gave it to Obama!
It is the first time since 1972.

10. I guess I don't see the difference between obama and hillary yet
well obamas a little better.

Are people supporting him actually going to be surprised when he does a pelosi on us and votes the issues the way the republicans what him to do? I'm wondering because since he's done that so far it won't be like he didn't have any track record to see this coming.

I guess my only hope at this point (since Edwards won't be the option) is to rely on him having less corrupt corporate conections waiting for the hand out than hillary has. What a pathetic way to have to vote.

11. Yippee!
I attended a rally for Obama yesterday and I was blown away by the number and enthusiasm of young people (there were all ages). I was encouraged to go by my 23 year old daughter who normally is not particularly political. But she is totally into Obama as are all her friends from Berkeley. I haven't seen the likes of it since the 60s. As an older woman, I think it's time for us to move aside and let these fabulous young people determine their future.

Leadership is so much more than one's positions on the issues or years of being in Washington -- it's being able to inspire and energize people. That is JFK's true legacy.

IT'S OBAMA TIME!

13. Obama Is Mainly The Product Of a Violent Culture On The Verge Of Imperial Collapse
Please don't say "welcome to DU" in response to this post. I'm a ten hour a day working man who doesn't have much time to write, although I enjoy looking at what DUers post. As a follower of Cicero, as opposed to Machiavelli, I would go with Obama. Cicero argued, that to be a success in politics, you need to be moral; you need to be a truth teller. It may be expedient to lie but, not only is it wrong, but it will ultimately be unsuccessful. Machiavelli argued that there is nothing wrong with lying as long as it succeeds. When Bill Clinton ( obviously with Hillary's knowledge) distorted and lied about Obama's position on several issues he was not moral as Cicero would say , but even on Machiavelli's terms he did wrong, since it did not succeed. Evidently, Ted Kennedy was so offended by this that, in part, it was responsible for his endorsement of Barack Obama. The Billaries' notorious use of triangulation (there they are at the point of the triangle throwing bones to the political base at the left and the right) is contrived, immoral Machiavellian politics. What bothers me is that some of my self styled intellectual friends know that the Billaries lie and my friends don't care. I am saddened that, in their case, the exercise of cynical power does not bother them. The L.A. Times has it right. It is the love of power, not tempered by morality, that has got the U.S. in so much trouble abroad. Bill Clinton, part of team Billary, led the way to the deaths of some one million Iraqis as the result of U.S. sponsored sanctions of Iraq, hundreds of thousands of them being children. While it is true that George W. Bush is a moral monster that does not erase the extreme viciousness of the Billaries against innocents in Iraq. One can only hope that Obama can do better. Personally, I can only hope as he is mainly a product of a violent culture on the verge of imperial collapse.
