Japan scare over China dumplings
Source: BBC News , Asia-Pacific

Dozens of Japanese people say they have fallen ill after eating Chinese-made dumplings, prompting Tokyo officials to launch an inquiry.
The frozen dumplings, known as gyoza in Japan, were made by Tianyang Food in China's Hebei province.

Japanese officials said they contained traces of pesticide, probably added in production or packaging in China.

China said no traces of pesticide had been found in pre-export inspections, but ordered a halt to production. ...

I was watching Japanese news update.
By now, over 300 people show the sign of poisoning.

I cannot believe this is not reported in DU.

Whenever I go to Asian market, I only buy either Japanese or Korean product.
Now, I have to make sure where they are actully made.
I don't thing everything from China is bad. I do think Chinese government are not doing a good job regulating the industry.

Regulation is always important.

1. Just remember when you eat Chinese food today...
Cheapest dumpling are frozen ones and they are imported from China.

I think I am going to stop eating anything imported from China.
I love Dim Sum. Oh, well, I will ask them questions.

13. You can always make your own.
Providing the ingredients are from a trusted source. Even the won-ton wrappers shouldn't be too hard - wheat flour, hot water, knead, divide and roll out with corn starch. Since I found out they were using chemicals in the wheat gluten added to pet food (I'm sure none of it got close to the people food supply) to simulate a higher protein content, I don't trust anything from China.

4. Country of origin food label laws!
We must have the Country of Origin food label laws enforced! It must be a point of emphasis by the Democrats in the general election. Consumer protection has become a joke under Republican control. This is an issue that can be exploited. People are sick of eating dirty and unsafe food.

9. It's not just Chinese gyoza
According to this article, Chinese-made frozen cauliflower, frozen lychees, and soba, among other foods, exceed Japan's maximum values for organic pesticide content.

11. For the Japanese speakers following this...
I followed up on that Takasago story.
It looks like there was another poison in there too, as well as a slit on the inner packaging of their gyoza. The poison was Ammonium thioglycolate. I did some research and this is what is used in perms.

I think somebody else poisoned these guys. Unrelated probably.
