Oregon soldier dies of (brain) injury from Iraq war
Source: AP

PORTLAND (AP) — A U.S. Army soldier from Oregon who suffered a brain injury in Baghdad last summer has died at a Maryland hospital, The Oregonian reported Monday.

Sgt. Mikeal Wayne Miller, 22, died Sunday, more than a week after his family had doctors remove life support, his mother, Rene Pool, told the newspaper.

Miller was shot in the head July 8 and flown back to the United States. He was treated at Bethesda Naval Hospital and a medical treatment center in California. Later, he was flown back to Bethesda, where he died, his family said.

...

Linne said Miller entered the Army in August 2003, a few months after his graduation from South Albany High School.

Miller suffered the injury during his second deployment in Iraq.

1. Damn--another fellow Oregonian sacrificed to Bush's unholy mess.
I am so sad, and beyond that don't know what to say. May his family find the strength they need to deal with this. Our Governor directs that flags be flown at half mast around the state in honor of our fallen soldiers. Too many flags, too much sadness...and the way the election is headed, it appears it will not end.

Right now I weep and feel no hope.

2. frequent deployments
increase one's chance of picking the shortest straw.

A base in Vicenza, Italy is mourning the death of one of its GIs, 21 y.o pfc. He told the recruiter that he didn't want to be in infantry, that he'd always wanted to be a firefighter. When the recruiter asked him if he wanted to be trained in "fire support," he gladly signed on.

Roadside bomb on Dec. 12 and he died 31 Dec.

3. May he rest in peace.
Healing and comforting energy, thoughts and prayers for his family.

May the architects of this illegal invasion and occupation rot in a Hell of their own making for Eternity (may Darth C. see this fine young man's face in his dreams forever).

5. He won't be counted as a "casualty", either
This is how they lowball the official casualty figures. Unless you die right on the spot, in country, you don't count. Also, if your transport rolls over after an IED goes off in front of it, you don't count. The IED has to actually hit the transport, you see. :eyes:

Miller suffered the injury during his second deployment in Iraq.

His second delpoyment in Iraq. Take note of this, newly minted repuke frontrunner McCain, before you start saber-rattling against Iran and who knows who else. :grr:
