Karl Rove Drops Prep School Speech

The Associated Press
Monday, January 28, 2008; 4:04 PM

WALLINGFORD, Conn. -- Following protests from students, former presidential adviser Karl Rove has withdrawn as this year's commencement speaker at a prestigious prep school, the school's headmaster said Monday.

The choice of Rove as speaker for the June commencement at Choate Rosemary Hall had led some students to plan to walk out of the ceremony. Others had sought to bring comedian Stephen Colbert to campus for an alternate speech.

Instead of commencement, Rove now will speak at the school on Feb. 11, headmaster Edward J. Shanahan said. Shanahan said he will deliver the commencement address at the school, the alma mater of John F. Kennedy and Adlai Stevenson.

Shanahan said he had asked seniors for their opinions on the proposed commencement speech and many said they wanted to hear from Rove _ but at some time other than commencement.

1. Run and hide.
Anyone who has been a part of this criminal enterprise will not be accepted in the real world.

Give speeches to right-wingers, where they have no honor or taste.

5. At least the kids don't have to show up for that one
I have no problem at all with that shit speaking there, just not to an audience that would probably be puking on their shows at the thought of it.

12. Saving face required a makeup date.
Students will have the option not to attend the later appearance whereas the commencement is something students should not have to miss.

 Such is "the genius" I guess

Wow I thought it was bad when the guy who "made" Bush his righthand man and most trusted confidant could only muster $3 Million for his first post White House book but now he is doing the "argyle circuit" ?????

20. It is Phillips Exeter Academy or Phillips Academy aka Andover
Exeter and Andover are long time rivals as snootiest new england prep schools. Choate, on the other hand, was founded as a feminist (1st generation) girls school.

23. It certainly was not. Choate was all male until
1970 when Rosemary Hall moved up from Greenwich CT to merge with Choate. Choate was the prep school that JFK and Adlai Stevenson attended. Two of my sisters went to Choate/Rosemary Hall. I escaped it.

24. So is Choate's heritage Rosemary Hall or Choate?
I agree that half of their heritage is the boys school. Should we just dismiss the other half?
