BREAKING: Hillary Clinton To Vote “No” On Cloture Tomorrow UPDATE: Barack Obama Will Be There Too
Source: Firedoglake (Jane Hamsher)

According to the Clinton campaign, Hillary Clinton will be in the Senate tomorrow to vote "no" on cloture on the Intel version of the FISA bill. The vote is scheduled to take place at 4:30 pm tomorrow.

I've also been trying to confirm whether Barack Obama will be there. His campaign people have not gotten back to me, but Obama does have a 4pm fundraiser scheduled in Washington DC.

Bravo, Senator Clinton. Well done.

UPDATE: The Obama campaign confirms that Senator Obama will be there too, and voting "no." Way to go, Senator.

79. I wouldn't get too excited ...
First it has to pass, but as we already know, bush is going to veto it if it does come to his desk without immunity and the game will continue.

Personally, I'm tired of getting my hopes up only to have them bashed again. I'm not going to get excited until I see rope being slipped over their collective necks and the lever pulled.

2. This is GREAT...thanks to both Obama and Clinton
We've emailed them, called them, urging them to do just that. Plus there was that "Prove It" ad, which I think had an impact.

THIS is what we can do when we try.

32. Yeah!
He should be winning the primaries for Pres. forgettabout Senate Leader!
In one of the early debates he is the ONLY candidate who said his first act in office would be to restore the constitution!
( while Hillary was talking about sending Bill & Poppy out as emmissaries!)
WHY CAN"T PEOPLE LISTEN??????
Sen. Bob Graham KNEW what was going on, HE GOT IT, back in'04. ( He was on the Senate Intelligence Committee) But he was ridiculed for making lists in his pocket notebook, and kicked off to the sidelines!

which of those on your list of shame are endorsing Obama and which are endorsing Clinton. Just curious because it seems that many of them support Obama, but I could be wrong. I have seen a lot of names thrown about lately as endorsers of the candidates and can not remember all of them.

67. The Nelson Twins, Landrieu, Inouye, and Salazar are not surprises, but
I'm a little surprised at Johnson and McCaskill. Are these typical traitorous votes? I don't remember seeing them on the lists in the past. Inouye just votes with AK. Maybe he should move there.

25. You think?
I think Hillary scooped Obama on it. Obama had that fundraiser right there in Washington. He could have swooped in and made some big headline, but Hillary figured it out and grabbed the glory.

No matter. NO to cloture means NO to cloture, either way. I just wish Reid could shake off this thrall Bush seems to have him under.

28. I admit I am stunned
I thought for sure we would see both candidates not standing up for the rule of law and said so in a few posts. This gives me hope...albeit shakey after what the dems have done over the last year...but I give credit where credit is due. Thank you Hillary and if its true Obama will vote no...thank you. Good for both of them. I have gained a bit of respect for Hillary for being out front on this. Its a shame we still have senators who are willing to stand for the corporations while ignoring the constitution.

Durbin (He sent me an e-mail saying he'd vote no, but Telecom Durbin...?)
Reid
Feinstein
Rockefeller
Byrd
Blanche "I've always relied on the kindness of traitors" Lincoln

Not much room to maneuver.

Not with Salazar, Nelson (Bill), Schumer (Whom I don't trust), Carper and Mark Pryor

50. how magnanimous of them to agree to show up and actually do their jobs . . .
I voted for Hillary's re-election to the Senate so that she could represent me and the rest of New York . . . instead she began campaigning for another office virtually as soon as her new term began . . . since then she's been eating chicken and begging for money all over the country instead of doing what she was elected to do . . . hope that's not a precursor of how she'd handle the presidency . . .

57. And thanks to John Edwards
driving the conversation, the two leading candidates have decided to appeal to their voting base as opposed to their money base.
Any Democrat who caves in to corporate influence (aka, bribes in the form of campaign contributions) should be run out of town on a rail. Let the corporate stooges in the GOP embrace that horse shit legislation.
If Bush vetos the bill without corporate protection then he exposes himself and his party as being more concerned with protecting the corporate bottom line than the citizens he's sworn to represent.
Either he's for the safety of we the people or he's protecting corporate cronies.
Or in simpleton Republican terms: "With us or with the terrorists."

62. I'm GLAD they will be there to vote no BUT....
I can't help resenting the fact that they BOTH had to be dragged, practically kicking and screaming, to the floor of the Senate to protect the American People. I can't help having the feeling that once again the nominee (either of the two most likely) will be far from the best the Democratic party has to offer.

That being said I'm glad they finally decided to stand up to the least popular President in American history. Better late than never.

Wishing for a miracle win for Edwards, but at least these 2 will be there to vote.

What I can't understand is why the fuck does it seem so HARD for our leaders to simply stand up for the LAW? This includes Pelosi (for whom I had high hopes) and Reid (for whom I had low expectations which he has never failed to move lower).

83. I don't want 4 years of this in the WH
Having to drag a reluctant Dem president kicking and screaming to do enact good public policy.

I envision this same battle for health care reform or getting out of Iraq from either Clinton or Obama.

All we want is leaders who know what is good and decent and is willing to say so and willing to fight for it. We shouldn't have to DRAG our leaders to the moral position that it is wrong for companies (much less the government) to knowingly break the law. This is what corporate control hath wrought on this once great country. I am sore afraid.

God how I miss the days when leaders convinced the PEOPLE that doing the moral thing (protecting the little guy from huge corporations and government control) was the right thing to do and comported with what we dream we are as a nation.

63. Isn't it silly
That in this day and age Senators have to be present to vote?
Made sense 150 years ago or more, but ever since the telegraph it seems an odd requirement.

68. I'm pleasantly surprised. Glad to see them sticking up for the American people
Too bad they can't spend some time in the Senate getting others to vote with them. This is yet another reason I can't stand Senators running for POTUS. They forget about their first jobs.

Well, thank God they are voting the right way on this one.

74. I think all the Senators have to be in D.C.
today because of the State of the Union address? If H.C. didn't vote 'no' on cloture, that would have been the end of her chances for nomination. Ditto for Obama, to be fair.

76. Edwards' statement last Thursday, January 24th:
Chapel Hill, North Carolina – Today, Senator John Edwards released the following statement urging Senate Democrats to filibuster the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA):

"In Washington today, telecom lobbyists have launched a full-court press to win retroactive immunity for their illegal eavesdropping on American citizens. Granting retroactive immunity will let corporate law-breakers off the hook and hamstring efforts to learn the truth about Bush's illegal spying program.

"It's time for Senate Democrats to show a little backbone and stand up to George W. Bush and the corporate lobbyists. They should do everything in their power -- including joining Senator Dodd's efforts to filibuster this legislation -- to stop retroactive immunity. The Constitution should not be for sale at any price."

it means that they don't need Hillary to end debate. It fits, 14 so called Democrats licked Bush's boots last week, that's more than enough to give immunity to the traitors.

Let's all not overlook the fact that the two senators are also, once again, following the lead of Mr. Edwards who released a statement last week urging senators to support senator Dodd.
