Caroline Kennedy Endorses Obama
Source: washington post

Caroline Kennedy has endorsed Sen. Barack Obama in a Sunday op-ed in the New York Times, the first time she has weighed in on a presidential race since her uncle, Sen. Edward Kennedy, sought the White House in 1980.

All eyes now turn to the senior senator from Massachusetts, one of the most conspicuous of Democratic fence sitters, who is known to have become mighty annoyed with Clinton campaign tactics in recent weeks.

1. Is this the big endorsement that was due to hit tomorrow? The one where
we DUers were deciding it was probably either Kennedy (Ted) or Gore?

Or will there be ANOTHER one tomorrow? Thanks.

What has she done to make her endorsement worth more than, say, yours for instance?

54. You really have to ask eh?
Well, for starters, I'm not the daughter of John F. Kennedy...
Me thinks Caroline Kennedy's endorsement will be considered far more impressive than mine....

"Ann Arbor endorses Barak Obama!"

Naah, just doesn't sound as impressive...

Thanks for stopping by!

4. I miss Camelot....but this campaign makes me feel young again..
we have a chance to recapture the past and to reshape this party to give a voice to all those who have given up. A chance to believe again in America and the American Dream which has been lost by many. A chance to grab onto those people who are or who have slipped threw the cracks.

A President Like My Father
By CAROLINE KENNEDY
Published: January 27, 2008

OVER the years, I’ve been deeply moved by the people who’ve told me they wished they could feel inspired and hopeful about America the way people did when my father was president. This sense is even more profound today. That is why I am supporting a presidential candidate in the Democratic primaries, Barack Obama.

My reasons are patriotic, political and personal, and the three are intertwined.

All my life, people have told me that my father changed their lives, that they got involved in public service or politics because he asked them to. And the generation he inspired has passed that spirit on to its children. I meet young people who were born long after John F. Kennedy was president, yet who ask me how to live out his ideals.

Sometimes it takes a while to recognize that someone has a special ability to get us to believe in ourselves, to tie that belief to our highest ideals and imagine that together we can do great things. In those rare moments, when such a person comes along, we need to put aside our plans and reach for what we know is possible.

We have that kind of opportunity with Senator Obama. It isn’t that the other candidates are not experienced or knowledgeable. But this year, that may not be enough. We need a change in the leadership of this country — just as we did in 1960.

A vote for the oligarchy is your choice. I didn't bully you did I?

I supported Hillary for Senator but when she voted to go to war against the protestors I was no longer in her camp. She refuses to impeach too. The WTO world domination thing also bothers me. That's not democracy. Guess you figured that out.

36. I would agree
that Obama is the first presidential candidate I've seen since John F. Kennedy to inspire people. He isn't my first choice, but I do recognize that one Kennedy-esqe quality. I think it's a large part of the fondness people had for Kennedy---his ability to lift people up.

51. Shhh...shhhh....
You aren't supposed to point out obvious discrepancies. There have been others who inspired. Reagan certainly was one. But to murmur his name even in passing is a terrible thing if it doesn't support what people are saying about Obama.

13. i don't care
i don't care who endorses whom. i make up my own mind. i'm also 51, have admired caroline kennedy my whole life; HOWEVER... other people have their reasons for voting for a particular candidate and those reasons are not mine. i don't care if jesus himself were to appear and endorse obama. too many people leave their thinking to others. i like to do my own research and come to my own decision. as a result, i'm endorsing john edwards. i can't for the life of me figure out why supposedly intelligent people are endorsing obama or clinton. imho it HAS to be emotion or politics and not much else. i watched obama's victory speech. the words brought tears to my eyes, but he left me cold. he's an opportunist in my opinion and has co-opted much of edwards' message. furthermore - he "delivered" a speech that was written for him. ugh. i'm sorry. i'm not bitter - just thoroughly annoyed. it's not a done deal, folks - there are still 46 states left to go. let's let the rest of the country have a shot at voting before we allow the press and the superstars to anoint our nominee.

20. This is good news for the Obama camp.
In the democratic party the highest compliment any candidate can get is to be compared to JFK but when his own daughter is doing the comparison it's really something to take notice of. I sense a huge momentum shift for Obama moving forward to Feb 5.

33. OK.........
They are being political, don't get all dewey eyed! Sen. Kennedy waited to see how the wind blew before endorsing. Had Edwards won primaries or gotten a higher percentage, I bet he would have endorsed him! Polls show that Hillary can't win against McCain, & he is looking like a winner on the other side! End game STOP McCain! Now that he has Ted's endorsement I feel better about the possibility of his win. The progressive old lions have claimed him away from Lieberman the original mentor.

37. McCain
Do you realize there is the same kind of complaints about McCain---not being Republican enought---that are made about Clinton (she's a corporatist)? I don't know if they've done a "negatives" poll on McCain, but I would be interested to see what those results are. I'm thinking this electability argument may apply to both McCain and Clinton.

48. McCain's negatives among GOP voters are huge
especially the conservative wing of the party. I would think he would get more votes vs. Clintons than vs. Obama simply due to the number of people that will go out of their way to vote against the clintons.

McCain, (the only republican Keating Five member, incidentally), has been involved in so much unpopular legislation that I am amazed he is able to get this close to the nomination yet again.

Then again, he is an established globalist, first and foremost, which is, incidentally, what we are going to get for the next president, no matter if it's the Clintons, Obama, Romney, McCain, or the snake-oil salesman Huckabee.

Where did your long hair go
Where is the girl I used to know
How could you lose that happy glow
Oh, caroline no

Who took that look away
I remember how you used to say
Youd never change, but thats not true
Oh, caroline you

Break my heart
I want to go and cry
Its so sad to watch a sweet thing die
Oh, caroline why

Could I ever find in you again
Things that made me love you so much then
Could we ever bring em back once they have gone
Oh, caroline no

43. Woo Hoo! Double Woo Hoo, as two Kennedys endorse Obama.
I hope this makes a difference and gives him more of a chance to win. The Clintons have the machine to win Super Tuesday, so it'll be an uphill battle, and an unlikely one. But with all the endorsements of big leaders, maybe, just maybe we'll get someone who is turned toward the future and not looking back.
