$5 Million Reward Given to Tipster Who Fingered Moussaoui
Source: ABC News

Flight Instructor: Moussaoui Raised Eyebrows With His Interest in Only Jumbo Jets, Not Takeoffs and Landings

Today a Minnesota flight instructor is being rewarded by the U.S. government for his vigilance in the form of $5 million.

In August 2001, the instructor knew something was suspicious about Zacarias Moussaoui the day he met him, so he urged his bosses to alert the FBI. Moussaoui was taking private flight classes and was soon arrested on immigration charges. He later pleaded guilty to having a role in the 9/11 attacks and is the only person to face trial in the U.S. for the attack.

A closed ceremony was held today at the State Department to present the reward, attended by State Department, FBI and Justice Department officials.

The payout is part of the State Department's Rewards for Justice program, which pays cash to those who provide information on the whereabouts of terrorists.

7. And a PR coup, to boot. They're counting on this story to go global.
Reasonably priced ad campaign considering the return they're probably going to get out of it. You can bet the U.S. run stations in the M.E. are playing it up. The only problem I foresee is the number of unpopular neighbors and relatives who are going to swell the population of Gitmo again, just like the last time they offered rewards.

a terrorist to scare america into voting repug and justify the war on terror?

Okay so he got ushered away and no fair trial so we don't know if he's real.

But the point is other than him they only had Cat Stevens and people that too many people knew had no real ties to terrorism.

I'm sure they felt they must reward this guy somehow for turning someone in.

Now what about them wmds? How about 10 mil? I'm sure they'll find someone who says they saw some.

Btw, did you all catch that there's a 5 mil reward to report each other if we suspect? The nazis would be very very proud.

11. Pilot awarded $5 million for Sept. 11 tip
Source: MSNBC

The Bush administration paid a $5 million reward to a former Minnesota flight instructor who provided authorities with information that led to the arrest and conviction of 9/11 conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui.

The recipient, Clarence Prevost, was honored Thursday at a closed-door ceremony at the State Department, although the payout was secretly authorized last fall by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and the Justice Department, U.S. officials told The Associated Press.

The reward from the State Department's "Rewards for Justice" program is the first and only one to date to a U.S. citizen related to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the officials said.

It is also unusual because Moussaoui, who was imprisoned at the time of the attacks, was never named as a wanted suspect by the program. The program mainly seeks information about perpetrators or planners of terrorist acts against U.S. interests and citizens abroad.

20. Yup, and
Nelson, who still lives in Minnesota, said he's writing a letter to Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., to express his outrage and ask for an investigation into the award.

I wonder why he's not writing to Coleman. :sarcasm:

19. This is so fishy....
What is this really about? A huge "reward" to a guy who warned about
Moussaoui who was in jail at the time and nothing then was done
by this administration to stop the attacks on 9/11 as a result of
the warning....
this smells like a coverup.

31. Now About Those FBI Supervisors...
As I recall from my own readings (largely print) about the developments that led to the September 11th attacks, there were several other flight school instructors and also FBI field agents who tried to raise the alarm about the curious behavior of some of the flight school trainees who later participated in the September attacks. The supervisors in Louis Freeh's FBI chose not to pay the slightest bit of attention to what was going on, those flight school trainees were never detained or seriously questioned and, as we all know, thousands of people died on September 1tth. Are those supervisors still in the FBI? Are they still supervising (Did they ever wise up, G*d help us?!), did the post-Freeh FBI even bother to do as little as put letters of reprimand in their promotion jackets?
