Poll: Giuliani slips to third in Florida

Poll: Giuliani slips to third in Florida
BY BETH REINHARD AND BREANNE GILPATRICK
Rudy Giuliani has hit the skids in a Florida freefall that could shatter his presidential campaign and leave a two-man Republican contest in the state between John McCain and Mitt Romney, a Miami Herald poll shows.

Despite hovering over Florida voters for weeks, Giuliani is tied for third place with the scarcely visible Mike Huckabee in a statewide poll of 800 likely voters.

With his poll numbers slipping back home in the Northeast, Giuliani's campaign will implode if he can't turn it around in the six days left before Florida's Jan. 29 vote, the final gateway before a blitz of primaries around the nation that could sew up the race.

''He may be running for president, but with these numbers he wouldn't be elected governor of Florida,'' said Republican pollster Kellyanne Conway, whose firm conducted the survey with Democratic pollsters Schroth, Eldon & Associates for The Herald, The St. Petersburg Times and Bay News 9. Alluding to the timeworn song, Conway added: ``If he can't make it there in Florida, he can't make it anywhere.''

15. Roger wilco over and Out!
This guy was barley in first place during a one man race. He is a stubborn SOB so I suspect we'll have to wait till super duper Tuesday to see him fizzle for good.

2. I hope Ron Paul kicks his ass in Florida.
That would be the final proof that he's a complete loser.

9. From the article whose link was posted
McCain is narrowly leading the Republican field with 25 percent of the vote, followed by Romney with 23 percent.

Statewide, Giuliani received support from 15 percent, down from 36 percent in a Miami Herald poll in November.

7. Good!
I just heard an in-depth piece on the radio about Giuliani and the asbestos in the air after 9/11. It was not flattering to Rudy G. Not flattering at all.

11. A noun, a verb, and 9/11
Not quite enough to build a national campaign on, is it? And who wants political consulting from a man who couldn't put together a better campaign than this train wreck?

27. Now it's a noun, a verb, and "tax cuts".
Republicans' minds can only hold one idea at a time. Right now it's all tax cuts for Rudy. Good luck with that, "Sir".

22. Have the mainstream media given any other candidate this much attention,
given his finishes in the primaries and caucuses to date?

They want Giuliani to be the nominee so bad that they'll spin every one of his pathetic finishes into being part of his strategy of placing all of his efforts in Florida.

Is that how he'll address issues as president? With the same results as his standings in Florida?

23. There's only one thing that can "save" him
For the past two months, except for debates, he's pretty much been off the air. His "ignore the first four or five primaries" strategy meant that the news media was busy interviewing candidates who had at least a shot of placing in the top two or three. Rudy became invisible.

But, now he's back on the air. With all the McCain, Huckabee, and Romney blah-blah-blah since mid-December, maybe Rudy looks like somewhat of a "fresh face". He's already seen his opponents' weaknesses in the other states, and if he can hit them hard with them in the last days, maybe he can finish a weak first.

Not likely, I'll admit, but it might be too soon to nail down the coffin lid on Ghouliani.

26. Third! Giuliani will never make it to third place in Florida.
With the stiff competition from Ron Paul, Fred Thompson (no longer running), and Undecided, Rudy will be lucky to come in fourth. In my opinion, he never had a chance. His "front runner" status all last summer was the result of simple name recognition, nothing more.

He is toast.
