EU rejects Chavez's call to remove Colombia's FARC rebels from terrorist list

BRUSSELS, Belgium - The European Union insisted Tuesday it will not take Colombia's FARC rebel group off its blacklist of terrorist organizations despite the urging of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

"The answer is 'no.' There is no reason to change our position," said EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana after talks with Colombian President Alvaro Uribe.

Solana said Uribe had the EU's full backing for his fight against the rebels. "The terrorists have no justification," he told reporters.

European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso appealed for the "immediate and unconditional release" of all the hostages, accusing the FARC of holding them in "inhuman" conditions.

Boy, do these first world financial barrcudas NOT want peace in Colombia!

My theory is that Oil War II: South America is coming down the pipe, fast. See the following, and my comment at the above. (I also have some thoughts on recent Bush/CIA dirty tricks/psyops in South America, in my DU journal.)

(And you thought he was "retired"!)

Amnesty International's report on Colombian security forces and associated paramilitary atrocities against labor leaders in Colombia:

This is WHY there is a FARC (armed leftist guerrillas) in Colombia. Frankly, I don't know what I would do if I saw friends/family of mine who were labor leaders chainsawed and their body parts thrown into mass graves, and thousands tortured and killed (union organizers, small peasant farmers, political leftists, human rights workers, journalists). Violent rebellion may not be "justified" in such circumstances, but it surely is understandable. (Our own Founders thought violent rebellion was justified for far less).
