McCain trashes Norris' talk about his age

MIAMI (Reuters) - Republican John McCain threatened to call out his nonagenarian mother on Monday to get actor Chuck Norris to stop talking about him being too old to serve as president.

"I'm going to send my 95-year-old mother to just go over and wash Chuck Norris' mouth out with soap," McCain quipped at a new conference.

The Arizona senator, 71, spoke when asked about a claim by Norris, a 67-year-old Hollywood action star who is campaigning for rival Mike Huckabee, that he is too old to handle the pressures of the White House.

"I didn't pick John to support because I'm just afraid that the vice president would wind up taking over his job in that four-year presidency," Norris said on Sunday at a fundraiser he hosted for Huckabee at his Texas ranch.

I've known people who were perfectly healthy (and young, or young compared to McCain) be diagnosed with cancer and die within weeks. I've also known people who are supposedly terminally ill who live for years past what doctors predict. I don't like McCain's politics, but I wouldn't discount him because of age or health. I'm not even sure that health matters. FDR wasn't healthy, but the whole world's better off for having him in office when he was, even though he died there. Despite what our present Great Leader would have us believe, the president doesn't actually have to fly around in fighter jets and destroy the Evil Doers single handedly.
