Sen. Biden's wife involved in car accident, 'not seriously injured'

"Delaware Sen. Joe Biden's wife Jill was involved in an accident" on Interstate-95 in Delaware this morning, our Gannett colleagues at The News Journal in Wilmington report.

"Police did not immediately release any details on the crash," the News Journal adds, "but reportedly she was not seriously injured. A spokesman for the senator's office declined to comment on 'private family matters.' "

Biden, who dropped out of the presidential race after the Jan. 3 Iowa caucuses, lost his first wife and daughter to a car accident in 1972, shortly after he was first elected to the Senate.

On edit more on the accident: Troopers investigating the two-vehicle crash determined that Vanderbosh, who was operating a 1988 International tractor trailer, was southbound in the left center of the highway next to a 2001 BMW driven by Jill Biden, of Greenville.

Whitmarsh said as the rig changed lanes to the left, it plowed into the BMW.

Both vehicles came to a final rest on the left side of the highway.

Jill Biden was taken to Christiana Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries and released.

As with Cate Edwards - glad Senator Biden's wife if ok.

1. but what a horror for him to get that call
...considering the crash that took the life of his first wife. We love you, Joe. You're a hero.

2. Glad she's okay along with Cate Edwards
I know these accidents with minor injuries happen all the time under the radar, but it's odd that two families who lost loved ones tragically in car accidents are involved in an accident within one day of each other. Not reading anything into it...just glad they're okay.

5. Yeah, Had To Be Hard There Too
Considering John and Elizabeth lost another child in a car wreck!
And Biden lost his first wife to one too!

I can only imagine the first thought that went through Joe's mind (and John's mind) when they heard about it!

I just want to hug them.

7. I always keep an eye on a rig's side lights if they're right next to me.
And if those lights start blinking, I start honking!

that's a freaking death trap around there
