John Solomon Appointed Executive Editor of The Washington Times
Source: Washington Times (press release)

WASHINGTON, DC -- The Washington Times today announced the appointment of John F. Solomon as executive editor to succeed Wesley Pruden, who is retiring after 25 years in The Washington Times newsroom. Solomon brings to the newsroomís leadership over two decades of journalism experience, with a strong background in investigative reporting and managing interactive digital content.

"John Solomon's appointment is a great step forward for The Washington Times, and is good news for our readers, staff and advertisers," said Thomas P. McDevitt, president of The Washington Times. "He is a working journalist, innovative manager, and skilled leader who can navigate the complicated media landscape while maintaining traditional news values and credibility."

Solomon comes from The Washington Post, where he has helped lead its national investigative reporting by producing scores of front-page stories and cross-platform Web and TV productions that have had widespread impact. His recent work has exposed the new Congressí efforts to hide earmarks and divulged problems with the FBI use of anti-terrorism tools and forensic science.

4. Yes! Good catch. Washington Post, Washington Times = neocon enablers
Both publications are rabid for war.

This is addition by subtraction for the Post. Good riddance.

6. Big jump for Solomon
I didn't recognize the name at first, but a previous post made the connection for me. He's been writing for the Post for only a few months. Used to be at AP, I think.

Foreclosures must the only thing keeping the Times afloat. Well, that and barrels of cash being from Moon and possibly others in South Korea. The classified ads, virtually empty for the last 25 years, have swollen with page after page of foreclosure notices. These are flush times for the Times.

9. You forgot Mallard Fillmore.

Those wacky liberals! Mallard knows just how to skewer them.

Also, the weekly feature "Out of the Past," appearing in the Friday Automobile section, is always worth reading. It's about classic cars. I know some of the cars and owners that have appeared in that column.

8. Good Start For the Post
Now if they could just "lose" Krauthammer, Novack, Will, Gerson, Howell, and the man responsible for them, Fred Hiatt, we might get our old Washington Post back.

10. Isn't that the Moonie Times?
Does the good Rev. Sun Myung Moon even pay his writers? I thought they all had to sign a loyalty oath promising to work for nothing for the greater glory of God on Earth (that being the Rev. Moon).

I guess he pays some of them sometimes because he was brought up on tax evasion charges a while back. I think he tried to claim that the Moonie Times was nonprofit and a part of a religious foundation and thus had to pay absolutely no taxes. The government didn't seem to agree.

If only little Rupert Murdoch had thought of that scam. Just think how much he could make off the Wall Street Journal if he declared it a religious arm of the Milton Friedman free marketeers.
