5. This is institutionalized corruption, in my opinion
And it seems to be the norm now, in so-called western democracies. This is an excellent way for corporate elites to dominate the political process. If leaders who are cooperative know they will be rewarded with a high paying corporate job when they are done with politics (or a bunch of directorships), they will alter their behavior accordingly.

11. It's rather like historical payback
for the way I assume we ran India during our empire.

Buy up the local Sultans and Princes by taking them into the 'in-clique', visits to queen Victoria, sons to the most exclusive schools in britain, cash, etc, etc.

Then let these arseholes run things for the benefit of britain, but not in the interests of their own countrymen.

Quite ironic really.

10. He was *supposed* to be a Prime Minister ...
... a leader of the land, not some little subservient over-religious dipshit.

He was *supposed* to have represented the *Labour* party (the workers) rather
than the rich pampered bastards that the Conservatives normally serve.

He was *supposed* to have acted in the best interests of the UK, not for
those of the privileged few running the US.

So ... when he quits as PM and goes to one of the most capitalistic industries
in the world for an obscene "salary", he deserves every bit of abuse and
criticism that he is going to get.

I'll give you a break: I'll not call you on your behaviour and simply put
it down to ignorance.

12. There are many other possibilities
He could
- write his memoirs.
- write on other subjects.
- work for an NGO.
- work for an important international cause (like Gore or Princess Diana).
- do the talk circuit.
- go back to his original career (often law for politicians).

Going immediately into big business for a large salary makes one wonder about his objectivity during his tenure as PM - i.e. did he already have an "understanding" with big business.
