Snow falls on Baghdad - hailed as 'omen'
Source: TheAge

Snow has fallen on Baghdad for the first time in memory, and delighted residents declared it an omen of peace.

"It is the first time we've seen snow in Baghdad," said 60-year-old Hassan Zahar.

"We've seen sleet before, but never snow. I looked at the faces of all the people, they were astonished," he said.

"A few minutes ago, I was covered with snowflakes. In my hair, on my shoulders. I invite all the people to enjoy peace, because the snow means peace," he said.

...

"It's a sign of hope. We hope Iraqis will purify their hearts and politicians will work for the prosperity of all Iraqis."

3. Bush makes surprise visit to Iraq
Not yet of course, but how long until the MSM announce his visit, showing pictures of him walking through downtown Baghdad in a meet and greet session with the Iraqi people, building snowmen with local children.

Coward will only announce his visit once he is out of the country.

16. Getting those Criminals who've Squatted in DC OUT would be a first step to fulfill
what the Iraqi's are hoping is a "sign of peace." But, with Bush on his WAR ...ENDLESS WAR Crusade in the ME and kissing up and hugging Olmert....I still think PEACE will be a long time in coming. Unless Israel get's it's act together and throws out the Bush enablers ...the world will be in chaos for a long time more to come. :-(

Massive U.S. air strikes pound insurgent havens south of Baghdad
By Hamza Hendawi, The Associated Press

ZAMBARANIYAH, Iraq - U.S. warplanes unleashed one of the most intense air strikes of the Iraq war Thursday, dropping more than 18,000 kilograms of explosives in a thunderous 10-minute onslaught on suspected "al-Qaida in Iraq" safe havens in Sunni farmlands south of Baghdad.

The mighty barrage, recalling the Pentagon's "shock and awe" raids during the 2003 invasion, appeared to mark a significant escalation in a countrywide offensive launched this week to try to cripple remaining insurgent strongholds.

---------------------------------------------------------
"Thirty-eight bombs were dropped within the first 10 minutes, with a total tonnage of 40,000 pounds" the statement said. That tonnage would equal just over 18,000 kilograms.

funny how the snow of today made more news than the 'snow' of yesterday....

Snow falls on Baghdad for first time in memory
Fri Jan 11, 2008 11:59am EST

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Snow fell on Baghdad on Friday for the first time in memory, and delighted residents declared it an omen of peace.

Traffic policeman Murtadha Fadhil, huddling under a balcony to keep dry, declared the snow "a new sign of the new Iraq."

28. Actually, that is the news of today
Iraqi lawmakers agree to bill reinstating ex-supporters of Saddam's Baath party

snip

The bill, approved by a unanimous show of hands on each of its 30 clauses, is the first piece of major U.S.-backed legislation approved by the 275-seat parliament.

'08 plan is to turnover the last seven provinces to iraq authority by August while the troops are
redeployed out of areas under full Iraqi authority/control to the shrinking areas still under 'freedom fighter' influence.

'09 is downsizing.

no secret to this as it was made public several months ago but those stories do not make sensational M$M front page controversy

33. What a terrific
picture! Look at that man's face. Although we will ascribe this snowfall to global warming, as well it should be, I was touched to read where many there see it as a positive. They certainly deserve whatever goodness comes their way after the nightmare called *Dumbass.
