9/11 INJURY-FUND OVERSEER QUITS
Source: New York Post

January 9, 2008 -- The controversial head of the fund set up to pay medical expenses for 9/11 heroes - who has fought nearly every claim while collecting a $350,000-a- year salary - is stepping down.

Christine LaSala, president and CEO of the $1 billion World Trade Center Captive Insurance Co., submitted her resignation effective July 1 - or as soon as a replacement is found.

Sources told The Post yesterday that LaSala, 57 - who has also been condemned for spending exorbitant sums on lawyers and consultants - was pressured to leave by the Bloomberg administration, which governs the fund.

Her resignation comes a month after The Post reported that the fund for rescue and recovery workers spent more than $100 million, mainly on high-priced lawyers and consultants, as of Sept. 30. But it paid out just $320,000 to six workers with orthopedic injuries.

If anyone has bitten the dust, it's the 9/11 workers.

5. LaSala's pay far greater than any city employee
350 grand a year for doing absolutely nothing (other than theft and embezzlement).

"LaSala's pay exceeds by $100,000 the $250,000 salary of Schools Chancellor Joel Klein, the highest-paid city employee, who oversees a $14 billion budget, 110,000 employees and 1.1 million kids."

9. That person is the most DISGUSTING person I've head of for a long time.
Here is the "most favorable" report on her I could find:

LaSala To Quit WTC Captive
The World Trade Center Captive Insurance Company announced today that Christine LaSala, the company’s president since its formation in July 2004, will resign effective July 1, or upon the prior appointment of a successor.

Ms. LaSala leaves as an extended legal controversy continues over how the operation interprets what sort of claims it should protect against.

The WTC Captive has been embroiled in controversy for the past few years relating to Sept. 11, 2001. Ms. LaSala has maintained the captive was formed to cover the cost of defending New York City and its contractors against lawsuits stemming from 9/11.

Others, however, believe the captive should be paying for medical expenses incurred by 9/11 responders. New York Insurance Superintendent Howard Mills, for one, sent a letter in July 2006 demanding that the New York-domiciled operation send his department a “detailed analysis of claims paid and expenses incurred” since the captive’s inception, July 2004.

Mr. Mills wrote, “Few, if any, claims have been paid, but substantial sums have been expended by your organization since 2004 for professional services.”

.... charged to a billion-dollar fund that has paid out less than a million dollars to those it's supposed to assist... it's all SO SICKENING. :puke:

And you know what -- I wouldn't be surprised to know that everyone involved in this sordid mess walks around with little flag pins in their lapels.

14. $1 billion in taxpayer dollars to fund a legal scam
Christine LaSala, president and CEO of the city-controlled WTC Captive Insurance Co., which is managing the 9/11 fund created by Congress, gets the entity's top salary - which has never before been publicly revealed - plus $20,000 in health benefits for herself and her family, documents obtained by The Post show.

Meanwhile, teams of lawyers hired by the fund to dispute and deny more than 5,000 claims for illnesses blamed on toxic exposure at Ground Zero earn up to $550 an hour for "senior partners," the records show. Other top lawyers working for the entity earn higher rates, sources said.

The Post has reported that Captive, a self-insurance fund set up by the city in 2004 to cover claims from the WTC cleanup, had spent more than $40 million as of four months ago on overhead and lawyers. The company has refused to pay a single ill Ground Zero responder.

LaSala, 56, a former partner at insurance brokerage Johnson & Higgins, took the helm of the captive in mid-2004.

"harpie".

Then again, I suppose if you're a Repub designate, you can take anything you want from those that bore the brunt of exposure, as long as some disgusting sub-human can ensure that she enriches herself and her cronies at public expense.

Folks...we are getting to the point where pitchforks and torches will become the norm here shortly. I can't see even GOP'ers standing for this.

17. That is un-fricking-believable! How could any human being charged with such an
important and solemn duty do that to those 9/11 workers? How does she sleep at night?

Now she'll have lots of time to tour that new museum in NY worshiping Wall Street.

24. What court would hold trial?
What officer would jail? Pessimistic? Certainly. Years of documented, unprosecuted crimes makes a person face grim facts.

How high above the law? Insanely high, in 2008.

27. The criminal's conflict
Neocons don't feel empathy or compassion because that would force them to acknowledge their crimes. It's too distressing to care for the injured when it's you who injured them. It's easier to just pretend they don't exist.
