(R) Congresman Doolitle Set To Resign-Retire from Congress
Source: Sacramento Bee Newspaper

Republican Congressman John Doolittle will probably retire
today, announced a Republican spokesman to the SacBee.

Doolittle, elected to congress in 1990, is now deeply in-
volved in the Abramhoff scandals, is under intense law
enforcement investigation.

He represents CA's 4th congressional district, which
includes the large areas of Placer & El Dorado counties,
even Lake Tahoe.

Democratic candidate USAF Lt. Colonel Charles "Charlie" Brown
will move ahead with his camapign no matter who replaces
Doolittle for the GOP. Doolittle only beat Brown by 2-percentage
points in 2006.

No link yet.

9. AND HEY, BROTHERS & SISTERS...
With Doolittle gonzo, let's all contribute what
we can to Chalie Brown's campaign. His site
is on the internet.

Find it, check him out and contribute what you can.
Let's turn CA CD-4 bluer than Lake Tahoe!!!!!

2. This isn't good for Brown
If Doolittle does quit I will be very happy indeed. He will lose in a contest against Brown. If the Republicans put up somebody who isn't a right wing crackpot they will probably retain the seat.

6. Same Old faces...
The GOP's around here are already pushing the name
Rico Oller, a former GOP State Senator, not well-
loved or liked, with a bad reputation.

But CA's 4th district is ready to turn blue.
The same Republcans for Brown groups will not
leave him for Oller---not a chance.

The CD-4 GOPS have nothing but old, re-tread
tires to run against Brown. This district wants
a new direction.

14. It will certaintly be a test of self-awareness for the local GOP poobahs
In the last decade there has been a massive influx of people from the Bay Area and Los Angeles. (We moved to EDH from Long Beach) If the Republican party doesn't recognize this and puts their weight behind some Doolittle clone they are going to lose. I think Brown is acceptable to many moderate Repubs.

The Doolittle campaign's radio spots were laughable in their attempt to portray Brown as a commie deviant.

8. THINK ABOUT THIS, TOO...
Perhaps old Doolittle will sort of save his skin
and name names to the Justice Dept., of others
involved in the Abramhoff scandals.

His stepping down could affect other GOP's in office.

5. K & R. I just read that. We live in his district. Here is another link to KCRA:
http://www.kcra.com/politics/15020568/detail.html

WASHINGTON -- Rocklin Republican Rep. John Doolittle, who is under investigation in a congressional lobbying scandal, plans to announce his retirement from Congress today, according to a Republican official who spoke with Doolittle.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity pending a public announcement in Doolittle's district.

The development comes as Doolittle, in his ninth term, faced growing political pressure from fellow Republicans who viewed him as a liability because of his involvement, along with his wife, Julie, in the Jack Abramoff influence-peddling investigation.

...more at link.

Another ethically challenged Republican bites the dust. I'll have a celebratory glass of champagne tonight :)
