Rep. Michaud seeks to impeach Cheney
Source: bangor news

Democratic U.S. Rep. Michael Michaud has called for impeachment hearings into the conduct of Vice President Dick Cheney.

Michaud, who represents Maine’s 2nd District, expressed his position in a letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers of Michigan last month. In it, Michaud charged that there was "no doubt" that the Bush administration had "dangerously expanded the scope of executive authority" and flouted "the constitutionally defined separation of powers."

...

The congressman’s press secretary, Monica Castellanos, said Monday that Michaud had reached his decision after weighing the matter for months. She said a "great deal" of his constituents had pressed him to support Cheney’s impeachment and that he had consulted with legal experts before stating his position to Conyers in the Dec. 21 letter.

"He has given this a great deal of thought for some time. It was not a decision he made lightly," Castellanos said. "It is really about honesty and healing a bitterly-divided country. Addressing this is the first step in restoring the public’s faith in our government."

Cheney’s office had little reaction to Michaud’s letter to Conyers.

"The vice president is focused on the serious issues facing this nation," Megan Mitchell, a vice presidential spokeswoman, said late Monday afternoon.

1. If one of the major candidates came out for impeachment
it would be interesting to see if they would get some press and people would start sending them money. I know I would.

5. it would probably open the floodgates of seething anger -- and generate BIG DOLLARS. . .
Whatever the result, it would transform the dynamics and, as McGovern pointed out, it would "signal to the American people and the world that some of us feel strongly enough about the present drift of our country to support the impeachment of the false prophets who have led us astray. This, I believe, is the rightful course for an American patriot."

The presidential candidates, current Reps and Senators, and candiates for House and Senate seats are utter fools to bypass the incredible potential to tap the motherlode of energy and action that is driving so many to write and call their representatives and media figures in unprecedented numbers.

Utter fools.

11. Dennis?
He did as you suggested. He doesn't get much press, and is excluded from debate. I wonder if he gets a lot of campaign donations.

4. "The vice president is focused on the serious issues facing this nation," ya right.
serious issues like plotting to illegally attack another ME nation. I'd say that's pretty serious reason to IMPEACH THE DICK.

6. They're coming
in one at a time. People are waking from their scandal induced coma and are starting to see things more clearly.

The BAE scandal that should be breaking at any moment will gather up a lot of people in this government. Along with, and tied to the BAE scandal, the information that Sibel Edmonds is starting to share will also rock the political world. I just hope there is enough time left for this country to fix what will be brought out.

8. I am glad Rep. Michaud did this but, calling on Conyers
is useless. I used to have some respect for Conyers but no more. He is an utter sham.

16. It's about time.
I am one of his constituents, and I emailed him several times asking him to move on impeachment. I'm glad I'm finally getting represented.
