(Rev.) Jackson: 'Mad Dean disease' hurting Democrats
NEW YORK -- The Rev. Jesse Jackson said Tuesday that some Democratic rivals of presidential hopeful Howard Dean have succumbed to "mad Dean disease" and warned that the party would self-destruct if the campaign remained "too hostile and too bloody."

Appearing with presidential candidate Wesley Clark at his annual Rainbow/Push job fair, Jackson urged civility among the nine Democratic contenders for the White House.

"In this whole battle, we must have one eye on competition and one on cooperation," Jackson said. "Democrats must not self-destruct in a bloodbath by attacking each other in ways that amount to providing sound bites for George Bush."

The civil rights leader, whose son, Rep. Jesse L. Jackson Jr., has endorsed Dean, said too many of the former Vermont governor's rivals "have 'Mad Dean disease."'

2. You must have misread, Mad Dean disease is much like what you see here
Mad Dean disease is the ruthless, unwarranted attacks being used on Governor Dean by his own Democratic candidates, and in addition, some here at DU.

13. You know what's funny?
Back in 84 and 88, and even since, Jesse Jackson was attacked relentlessly for raising issues of civil rights or questioning candidates' record on civil rights. He was called a race-baiter and demagogue, accused of playing the race card and treated as if he was dangerously dividing the party. But now, he's regarded, at least in some quarters, as a wizened elder statesman. And now it's Al Sharpton who is taking the heat for speaking up and saying many of the same things that Rev. Jackson was saying back when he was to some the most hated black man in America.

Interesting.

14. No, I think you have misread the article, or read something into it.
Jackson does not single out the attacks on Dean for criticism. He criticizes the candidates' attacks on each other.

"Democrats must not self-destruct in a bloodbath by attacking each other in ways that amount to providing sound bites for George Bush."

11. Some of the "other candidates" lie about Dean and
Dean has pointed out some of the obvious facts about the "other candidates".

6. He's right.
I get so ticked off seeing Dems attacking each other. Just as the reverend says, they are, "providing soundbites for Bush." Our eyes should be fixed on beating Bush, not attacking each other.

I'm a Clark supporter, but I'll support whomever wins the Dem nomination.

8. Cheers!
Like so many inflammatory threads here at DU, we do ourselves a disservice by trashing the other candidate solely on innuendo and hyperbole. Better to debate the strength of one's ideas I say.

9. God, I agree with Jesse!!!
I never thought I would say that. Dean also seems to have made yet another mistake on the Bosnia war. CLARK is going to pull through after all. See this from USATODAY

Democratic presidential contender Howard Dean, a strong critic of what he calls President Bush's unilateral approach to foreign policy, urged President Clinton to act unilaterally and enter the war in Bosnia in 1995. (Related item: Text of letter)
"I have reluctantly concluded that the efforts of the United States and NATO in Bosnia are a complete failure," he wrote, citing reports of genocide during the Bosnian civil war. "If we ignore these behaviors ... our moral fiber as a people becomes weakened. ... We must take unilateral action."

The July 19, 1995, letter, obtained by USA TODAY, was written on Dean's official stationery as Vermont governor. The language appears to contradict Dean's core complaint that President Bush has followed a unilateral foreign policy, instead of a multilateral approach that relies on consultation and joint action with allies. He has repeatedly attacked Bush's decision to invade Iraq.

"I think getting rid of Saddam Hussein is a wonderful thing," he saidlast month. "But the question is, is it a good idea to send 135,000 troops unilaterally to do it?"

10. Mad Dean's polls just tend to keep rising? People like his spirit!!!!
Name call all you want Jesse.......but,

I'm mad about the illigitimate war and living under a tyranny and
I want someone to show a little more passion than the other
robotic candidates on stage.

Moderates have failed and they will fail again against Bush.

MAD DEAN = AMERICA's ANGER!!!
That's why we love him!!!!!!!!

:bounce:GO DEAN!!!!!:bounce:

12. Parts of the article you skipped:
"I'm going after everybody because I'm tired of being the pin cushion here," he said Monday.
Clark, the retired Army general, toured the expo with Jackson, and said he was there "to talk about economic development in minority areas and how to help urban Americans and rural Americans who are denied access to capital."

Does it mean you disagree with his attacking Clark WHO DID NOT ATTACK HIM? Or you only agree with the part that HD shouldn't be attacked by others?

16. You must not know the new rules, dude!
When other people do it to Dean, they are PNAC/BFEE/DLC shills making vicious attacks in order to preserve the power of their sinister overlords.

When Dean does it to other people, he is a brave man nobly speaking the truth about our enemies.

That's mighty convenient, isn't it?
