Osama Bin Laden Releases New Message

Osama bin Laden has released a new message aimed at Iraq's Sunni Arabs, warning them against joining tribal councils fighting al Qaeda.
In the new audio tape posted on the web, he also warned them not to participate in any unity government.

"The most evil of the traitors are those who trade away their religion for the sake of their mortal life," bin Laden said in the tape.

He denounced Abdul-Sattar Abu Risha, the leader of the Anbar Awakening Council - a tribal force fighting al Qaeda in western Iraq - who was killed in a bombing in September.

Not guaranteeing anything, but I find the underlying assumption on DU that Bin Laden is definitely dead to be as misguided as the assumption that the US had captured him and he's be unveiled right before the 2004 election.

but the fact that the fake is released is news, of a sort. I noticed it in a "breaking news" banner when I was on NBC looking for something else, and this is the earliest item that turned up in a news search.

had Bhutto saying, in a background-knowledge sort of way at the end of a list of other high profile facts that the interviewer (and audience) could reasonably be presumed to know, that the AQ guy who killed Richard Pearl executed UBL. And while the fact that he killed Pearl was high profile, it wasn't mentioned.

No indication as to how she knew and no expectation that this was new information on the part of the interviewer (the response of which was edited out, unless there was no response).

"Speech error" would come to mind had it been any other name.

But the way her utterance has been received brings to mind another phrase, "confirmation bias".
