Bush predicts GOP will keep White House
Source: UPI

WASHINGTON, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- The Republican party will keep the White House in the 2008 U.S. presidential election and win some congressional seats, President George Bush said Thursday.

"I believe ours is the party that understands the nature of the world in which we live and that the government's primary responsibility is to protect the American citizens from harm," Bush said during a news conference.

He said he would refrain from being the "opiner-in-chief" during the run-up to the elections, adding, "I've got an exciting 13 months ahead."

He said he would exercise patience until the primaries are over then "will help my party unify because I believe we will keep the White House."

Bush said he does travel for GOP party fundraisers, "trying to make sure once the primaries are over ... that we're united and ready to go. "

Remember that smirky smile he had during the night of the 2000 election -- he seemed oh-so-confident that something was in the works.

11. I'm certainly NOT saying don't vote -- but we should keep our eyes open for potential cheating
If the Democrats manage to field a lot of election volunteers who can monitor and report any wrongdoing, wouldn't this be a good thing? This is how I spend my election days ... I'm out in the field at polling stations. And yes, I feel that this IS very helpful.

WHERE in the post did she say or imply that which you so thoughtfully and objectively put her mouth?

Or is it just the voices in your head again?

Beyond tiresome.

25. I remember something worse than that.

I remember the night of the 2004 election, and the constant shots of the Bush crime family clustered around their White House TV, long faces and defeat on each and every one of them.

Then I remember that changing in the blink of an eye, as if...now this is just an example, of course...Karl Rove made the phone call that put in the fix.

I have no way to explain how a room full of scum could turn from "whipped" to "high-fiving" in a matter of minutes.

28. Good point. Plus, there was that comment by Bush during the phone call to Gore
Edited on Thu Dec-20-07 03:49 PM by Lisa
Apparently he told the VP that Jeb had assured him that Florida was his. Typical Dubya outburst ...

""Let me explain something," Gore continued. "Your younger brother is not the ultimate authority on this."

Jeb Bush had reportedly assured the Texas governor in the wee hours of Wednesday morning that Florida was a done deal."

53. Brilliant! They must be scouring community newspapers looking for events ...
... that they can parachute him into. It'll be PTA meetings next!

And just imagine the opportunities for pranks. After he leaves office, maybe he'll be shuttling back and forth between Portland (ME) and Portland (OR). "Oh, gee -- nobody here in town invited you, Mr. Bush. Maybe it was the people in the OTHER Portland? Perhaps you should go over there just in case!" Based on the voting patterns, I suspect that the populations of both cities would be rolling in glee, at the thought of Dubya trapped in limbo ...

45. puppet purchase order (PPO)
The neocons need to annoint one of the Republican candidates in a bid to retain power and must be trying to work out a comrehensive endorsement 'package' which includes their expectations for inclusion - like it were a cherished prize.

Then again, they might want to scatter to the wind knowing better than to remain attached to all the shit pile they've a;ready left for the future of federal authority - especially regarding fiscal solvency.

Bush thinking or acting like he thinks the election phase seems honky dory for now doesn't really measure up to reality.

Regards

It's a dangerous world, and an increasingly dangerous world thanks to the corruption and incompetence of the chimpass and the neocons. Nonetheless, no one can promise us we will be safe. We hope for and work for security, but we don't have a big daddy keeping us safe. The President's oath is slightly but importantly different:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

That is what we've put our trust in, not one terribly flawed man.

54. WaPo: Oct. 2006: "White House Upbeat About GOP Prospects"
Wrong again.

Michael Abramowitz
Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, October 15, 2006; Page A04

Amid widespread panic in the Republican establishment about the coming midterm elections, there are two people whose confidence about GOP prospects strikes even their closest allies as almost inexplicably upbeat: President Bush and his top political adviser, Karl Rove.

Some Republicans on Capitol Hill are bracing for losses of 25 House seats or more. But party operatives say Rove is predicting that, at worst, Republicans will lose only 8 to 10 seats -- shy of the 15-seat threshold that would cede control to Democrats for the first time since the 1994 elections and probably hobble the balance of Bush's second term.

In the Senate, Rove and associates believe, a Democratic victory would require the opposition to "run the table," as one official put it, to pick up the necessary six seats -- a prospect the White House seems to regard as nearly inconceivable.
