Troops Disperse Iraqis Rioting for Food
Troops Disperse Iraqis Rioting for Food
By NADIA ABOU EL-MAGD, Associated Press Writer

KUT, Iraq - Ukrainian soldiers fired into the air Monday to disperse hundreds of Iraqis who rioted for jobs and food as a second southern Shiite Muslim city was rocked by unrest — a barometer of rising frustration with the U.S. led-occupation in a region of Iraq considered friendly to the Americans.

Also Monday, a roadside bomb in the capital killed one American soldier and wounded two, bringing the U.S. death toll in the Iraqi conflict to 495. Large explosions rocked central Baghdad later in the day, but officials reported no casualties.

Trouble started in Kut, 95 miles southeast of Baghdad, when about 400 protesters marched for a third straight day on a government building to demand jobs. Someone in the crowd threw a grenade at police and Ukrainian soldiers guarding the building, injuring four Iraqi policemen and one Ukrainian, according to Lt. Zafer Wedad.

The Ukrainians then fired in the air to disperse the crowd, injuring one protester, Wedad said. He said the demonstrators hurled bricks at the building and trashed a post office in the city.

Whatsamatter with these people? Don't they realize that they are just stage props for Chimpy to use while he steals their oil? Go somewhere and die Iraqis. Your usefulness has run out. Its been real.

3. Ironic that Ukrainian soldiers are putting down an Iraqi food riot
Considering their history under Stalin, when Russian troops put down Ukrainian food riots. Oh well, they said irony was supposed to be dead after 911.

12. Don't consider 1,600 mercenary wackos to be representatives of Ukrainian
As Ukrainian native, I am deeply offended by the behaviour of ukrainian mercenary troops serving the nazi regime in Iraq.
But there are only some 1,600 bastards who volunteered for the job. Please, keep in mind that ukrainian military is very poor, so poor that most soldiers can't afford a normal living standard, while Iraqi quest promised 600 USD for a private a month, which is quite a lot of money for ukrainian standards.
However, there are some 48 million ukrainians who despise the presence of their troops in Iraq. It is purely a political decision by the president Kuchma, who was hunted by US DoD for allegedly supplying Kolchuga passive radar stations to Iraq. This was a lie, of course, as no radars were found upon conquest of Iraq, but in order to make a goodwill gesture, Kuchma promised to supply occupational forces with some 1,600 cannonfodder recruits.
I hope, they will soon leave Iraq, as we will hopefully boot the corrupted Kuchma out of his throne in December 2004.

9. Riots for food...
riots for jobs...oh, yeah, they're SO much better off than they were before, right? Try telling that to hungry people who are just trying to survive.

We are shoveling taxpayers money into Iraq for the benefit of Bush and his gang of thugs. We suffer, Iraqis suffer, and the world is less safe, certainly not more safe.

If a country were a person, the U.S. would now be diagnosed as insane.

10. I thought we already passed the 500 mark?
"Also Monday, a roadside bomb in the capital killed one American soldier and wounded two, bringing the U.S. death toll in the Iraqi conflict to 495."

But last week US officials already stated that over 500 US soldiers had died. Oh wait, I remember now, this 495 number doesn't include soldiers medivaced out of Iraq to German and US hospitals and later died of their wounds. Gotta spin, spin, spin those numbers.
