Musharraf ends Pakistan emergency
Source: BBC

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has lifted a state of emergency and restored the country's constitution.
The move will be welcomed by Western nations ahead of national elections on 8 January, but domestic opponents gave it a cautious welcome.

~snip~

His first act upon restoring the constitution was to swear in new members of Pakistan's Supreme Court, giving the oath of office to new Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar

~snip~

Independent judges have been sacked and replaced, and media freedom has been curtailed, and Mr Musharraf's position is now more secure, our correspondent says.

This was designed to look more democratic than it is I suspect.

1. And Bush* managed to do it without all the fuss.
Bush* has his own right wing Extreme Court and MSM is a lock for the GOP. All it took was an illegal ruling from the Extreme Court and the rest is history..

2. Yes, there can be no doubt Busharraf is trying to implement the Bush-Putin
for of totalitarianism, with it's phony window-dressing, on his nations.

I wish the Pakistanis luck in dealing with their Ruling Bushie Criminals, better luck than we American have had in dealing with ours.

4. I especially liked the way he "modified" the constitution before "restoring" it.
Perhaps soon we will hear about Bush "modifying the Constitution" and then "restoring the Constitution", as though it's application depends on his consent.

5. He replaced the supreme court with his goons, jailed the troublesome lawyers
rewrote the constitution making his actions "legal," and the United States has sided with him rather than with his democratic opponents.

Our complicity in Musharraf's tyranny will blowback on us just as our support for Iran's Shah did. Musharraf won't be replaced by democrats, but by the Taleban, and they will have access to nukes.

What a wonderful world we have created for ourselves!
