Head of veterans group goes into hiding as Congress investigates spending

Have you seen Roger Chapin? Congress wants to question the founder of Helping Hospitalized Veterans about allegations that his group misused charitable donations that were supposed to help wounded warriors.

The House Government Reform Committee issued a subpoena on Dec. 10, but the U.S. Marshals Service has been unable to serve it because they can't find Chapin.

"I am disappointed that you have chosen to evade federal law enforcement officials who are seeking to serve you with an official order issued by the United States Congress," Reps. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., and Tom Davis, R-Va., write in a letter. "I am equally disappointed that your attorneys and associates have refused to provide information regarding your whereabouts."

The Washington Post says a reporter reached Chapin last night at his home in San Diego. "You don't know me, but these guys have got this thing so wrong it's unbelievable," Chapin tells the paper. "It's a witch hunt. They're totally misrepresenting what the facts are."

we used to have "Fed Parties".

Any time any of us got up-graded to Federal Warrant status, we knew that guy was pretty much home free.

Those guys are lucky if they can find their own house.

5. There's a charity here in CA called COPS

It's supposed to provide funds for police help programs and new crime fighting technology. Yeah - right. I did a bit of investigation myself on the internet and found that while for 2004, they got 4million plus from hapless donors (phone solicitations), they gave a paltry 625 thousand to California law enforcement. Thats 625 thousand from FOUR POINT THREE MILLION taken in!!! Talk about your "operating overhead"!!! :crazy:

OH! I forgot to mention - this charity is headquartered in New Jersey. I guess crime's to rampant for them to have their money held in California.

8. There's another one that's worse....

The Police Widows and Orphans Fund. 95% of their budget goes to overhead and staffing.

If you're going to give to charity, give locally to a group who does the work they claim they're collecting for. Better yet, get involved.
