Jim McCrery (R-LA) to announce retirement
Edited on Sat Dec-08-07 12:03 AM by brooklynite
Source: Politico.com

Rep. Jim McCrery of Louisiana, the top Republican on the House Ways and Means Committee, is planning to retire, according to GOP insiders.

The 58-year-old McCrery was first elected to the House in 1986, and he would have taken over the powerful Ways and Means gavel in January if Democrats hadn't won control of the House.

Republican sources said McCrery would retire at the end of the 110th Congress, but he has yet to make an official announcement.

1. no official announce ment but he has a retirement party.
Two other senior Republicans on Ways and Means, Reps. Jim Ramstad (Minn.) and Jerry Weller (Ill.), have also announced their retirements from the House as well, meaning House Minority Leader John Boehner of Ohio and other GOP leaders could have some very valuable committee assignments to dole out next Congress, even if the Republicans don't win back the House.

Boehner issued this statement Friday night on McCrery's retirement.

“Jim is a good friend and has been a great representative of Louisiana’s 4th District. His intellect and thoughtful approach to his work on the Ways and Means Committee will be sorely missed by his colleagues on both sides of the aisle."

"Jim’s work on tax, trade, and health care policy has had an impact that will be felt for years to come. His leadership this year, in particular, has helped to expose the devastating tax-and-spend agenda promoted by the Democratic Congress, which has already proposed the largest tax increase in American history."

2. Change of Face Law in America
because all the crooks and liars are leaving Congress with their sack of pillage. They know the money is almost gone.

Why no impeachment or charges for the robbery and treason in our country by Congress says, they are all part of the problem.

8. LOTS of Repubs leaving so they can become lobbyists in a year, before new law!
I finally found out why all these Repubs are leaving their posts by the end of this year. I thought they were leaving a sinking ship, but a pundit on TV explained that the new Dem. controlled Congress got a new law passed that prohibits congress people from going to work for lobbying firms for TWO years after leaving Congress. The current wait period is ONE year. The new law takes effect January '08.

So Trent Lott and this guy here and all those others are leaving this year so that they will be able to make some big bucks with lobbying firms in ONE year, instead of two. They may not actually get a post with a lobbying firm. But they will have the option. I suppose if Repubs were in the majority, or it looked like they would take the majority position next year, some of these Repubs might have stayed, but in view of being in the minority, they're deserting their party for the chance to earn millions by calling on their old friends in Congress as lobbyists.

Nice work, if you can get it.

15. Not even close...
... in the House alone, 65 incumbents chose not to run for reelection going into the 1992 congressional elections.
