US Marine charged with murder in Fallujah killing
Source: Reuters

LOS ANGELES, Dec 7 (Reuters) - A U.S. Marine was charged a second time on Friday with murder and dereliction of duty in the shooting death of an Iraqi detained during 2004 combat operations in Fallujah.

Sgt. Jermaine Nelson is accused of shooting the man during the November 2004 search of a Fallujah home in which weapons were found, according to a statement from the Camp Pendleton Marine base.

He is expected to face a pretrial evidence proceeding, called an Article 32, early next year in which a military judge will determine if he should face court-martial.

Nelson's squad leader, Jose Luis Nazario, also faces criminal charges in the case, one in a series of incidents in which members of the U.S. armed forces are accused of committing violent crimes in Iraq and intensified criticism over the U.S. invasion.
