More than 500 US soldiers killed in Iraq: Pentagon
A total of 504 American soldiers have been killed in Iraq while about 2,849 others have been wounded in the nearly 10 months since the US-led coalition invaded the country, the Pentagon confirmed on Sunday.

The Pentagon added the nine killed when a UH-60 Black Hawk went down in the Iraqi town of Fallujah on Thursday, and another fatality to the total.

On Friday, the defence department said 494 had died, including 342 in hostile fire and another 152 due to non-combat incidents, including accidents and suicides.

Pentagon spokesman Megan Grafton said that in addition to the nine killed in Fallujah, another soldier was killed in a mortar attack on January 7 in Baghdad.

1. The Lunaville website is down
That was the best, most detailed and most up to date casualty website. I hope it returns soon.

3. Wait a minute
Last week, the AP said the count of 494 included the 9 dead in the copter crash.

Something's not jiving here.

5. The Pentagon is not counting those that died stateside of their wounds
One such case is Spec. Luke Frist, of Indiana. Frist received burns over 95% of his body when the fuel truck he was driving was hit by a RPG. Frist was flown out of Iraq to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, the premier burn center in the world. Frist died on January 6.

The Pentagon did not count Frist as among the Iraq KIAs!

Mother of soldier who died after Iraqi ambush leads support group

The Associated Press
January 7, 2004 4:56 PM

LAFAYETTE, IND. -- A woman who heads a support group for families of soldiers serving in Iraq is now the one in need of support _ her 20-year-old son died after suffering burns in an ambush in Iraq.

Relatives of soldiers in the 209th Quartermaster Company say Patti Frist has been a source of strength for them since the 108-member Lafayette-based Army Reserve unit left for the Middle East last April.

"She's like a rock. Nothing can move her. I just don't know how you can go through this and still stand," said Brenda Rasmussen of rural Attica.

Frist's son, Spc. Luke Frist, died Monday three days after being burned over 95 percent of his body in an ambush attack outside Ar Ramadi, Iraq.

12. Ah, silly IG. You know KIA means in-country, not stateside.
Now stop questioning Our Fuhrer!

;)

I hate these fuckers. If there were any justice, they'd be the ones with burns over 95% of their worthless, traitorous carcasses.

(And no, you lurking brownshirts, I am NOT advocating or planning violence, so stop rubbing your crotches while staring longingly at a picture of John Asscrotch!)

6. 504 lives lost. And for what?
I thought of all the dead while watching Richard Perle on CNN today. What a vile, pasty, fat piece of crap he is. Sitting in a safe TV studio in Washington, getting a back rub from Blitzer... :grr:

Does HE ever contemplate how many people are dead specifically because of his policies? How does that foul son of a bitch SLEEP?

:grr: :grr: :grr:

14. I believe the 9,000
refers to all soldier who have been evacuated from the field due to medical problems (including psychiatric). The 2849 specifically refers to those actually physically wounded. That is my understanding at least.

10. I was sure the 9 in the helicopter were already included in the 495
Perhaps since they knew the psychological milestone mark of 500 was coming up anyway, they decided to jump right over it. This eliminates the big 500 Deaths! headline that they might have gotten otherwise. A little like someone ignoring their 40th birthday for a few years (I am only 39), then admitting it a few years later (I am 43 - big deal).

Or maybe they just can't count.

11. They were included from all the figures I saw
Think they want to slip past this 500 and pretend it didn't happen - just keep on going - you know - that happened days ago - next?

16. Figure for the wounded is a boldfaced lie
NPR just did a story last week, in which they said the Army reported to them a figure of over 8000 Army personnel wounded seriously enough to warrant evacuation from Iraq. That's Army alone, not any other branch. So where does this 2000 figure/fantasy come from?
