Ellen has guest Jenna Bush call dad
Source: UPI

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Jenna Bush has called her father, U.S. President George W. Bush, from the stage of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," People.com reported.

DeGeneres asked the first daughter, a guest on Wednesday's show, if she could reach her dad by phone whenever she wanted, to which Jenna Bush replied, "Sure."

Encouraging her guest to call the president, DeGeneres covered the phone with her hands to protect the private number as Jenna Bush dialed and joked, "I'm not going to get anything I asked for for Christmas."

The talk-show host reassured her, "We're not barging in while they're in their pajamas or something."

First lady Laura Bush got on the phone and said, "I'm just sitting here with Daddy," prompting DeGeneres to say, "I wanted to say hi to Daddy."

37. Jenna was there to promote
her book..it was mentioned in the beginning..Bet she's going to show up all over the place. Also caught a quick glimpse of the rock she had on her hand when the lights hit it..You can bet she's not traveling alone.

5. OMG! The Bushes do know that Ellen is - GASP - gay, don't they?
And they still allowed their daughter to appear on her show? What will the evangelicals say about that?

Of course, I guess they're used to it by now since Cheney has one in his family.

:sarcasm:

Ditto on the comment that if Bush is sitting around with Laura mid morning, he likely isn't doing as much harm as he could be if he were talking to a world leader or Cheney or something... :eyes:

She was very nervous, though I was amazed that Jr. pulled through for her. I was expecting a faux pas on his part, as is usual.

22. not that telling, frankly
my father happened to be the CEO of a large corporation when I was Jenna's age. I had a number I could reach him at any time (he had a cell phone used only for family, and would answer it no matter what else he was doing) and if he was in a meeting, and I called him just for a joke he would have been annoyed that I didn't respect his work. so I can understand that. (just like when my mom calls me at work on my cell phone, hey ma? I can't talk now, I'm at work. but you always answer, what if it's an emergency?

39. I guess it's her fear that her dad was mad. And, asking him that, instead of laughing off
the situation, which I can imagine Pres Clinton and Chelsea doing, or Amy and Pres Carter.

C'mon it's a lightweight call from the Ellen Degeneres show, from his daughter.

I think Sen Gore or Sen Kerry would have fun with that as well, without their kids being afraid to call.

24. It Was Staged. . . . . .
Everyone is just going to be available to take a call at that moment. . . . .

... and both her parents sitting together to take the call. . . . .

. . . . . and calling on an "unsecured" telephone line ?!?!

Ellen didn't jump the shark. . . . she is surfing the shark. . . . .

This is good ole PR at work to make all of them look like a Norman Rockwell family painting for Christmas. . . .

I'm sad for Ellen. . . . . why she didn't take heed when everyone saw what happened when Rudy tried this same kind of stunt with the cel phone. . . .

I guess the dog must have died. . . . . and it's sweeps. . . . . . .

Edited on Wed Dec-05-07 06:48 PM by midlife_mo_Jo
I don't call my husband "Daddy" when I am talking "to" him, but will sometimes call him "Daddy" when talking "about" him to the kids.

It starts when they're little: for example, "Daddy's home," not "Your daddy's home."

And we haven't been "mommy" and "daddy" in years. Ditto for us referring to them as our "little girl" or "little boy."

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

My relatives from South America (not disclosing where) still call their mother "mommy," too. Even the grown males, and they're from a culture that's rather machismo!

instead of "your father" with lots of sarcasm in your voice. :)

I don't know what the big deal is. When speaking to your son are you suppose to call his father by his first name? :(

Although I guess that's a generalization that might not apply to all of the south.
