WV Metro News(Cannelton) Members of United Miners Workers Union Local 8843 say they are ready to go back to work at a mine that is now owned by Massey Energy.
The union miners delivered at letter Thursday at the offices of Mammoth Coal in eastern Kanawha County. The letter is to the company from UMWA President Cecil Roberts saying the union is ready to begin negotiating a union contract with non-union Massey.
The letter follows a decision from an NLRB judge that says Massey chose not to hire 85 miners when it took over the mine in 2004 because they were members of the union. The ruling says the miners should be hired, paid back wages and be represented by the UMWA.
Local 8843 President Bolts Willis says he told a Massey official that union miners are ready to go back to work immediately.
