Democrats jump on CIA leak case
Source: Boston Globe

Some of the Democratic presidential hopefuls are weighing in on the former White House press secretary's assertion that President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney knew about aides' role in leaking the identity of a CIA operative.

...

Senator Chris Dodd of Connecticut called on new Attorney General Michael Mukasey to investigate McClellan's claims and "determine the facts of this case, the extent of any cover up and determine what the President knew and when he knew it."

"If in fact the President of the United of States knowingly instructed his chief spokesman to mislead the American people, there can be no more fundamental betrayal of the public trust," Dodd said in a statement.

Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico bashed President Bush and promised to "never mislead the American people."

"It is a low point in our history when the leader of the free world fights to deceive the American public," Richardson said in a statement. "Rather than defend the Constitution, President Bush has bamboozled the country."

2. Good job, guys
And bonus points for Richardson for pointing out something that should be tattooed on the back of every reporter's hand: The President's job is not to defend the American people, as Bush would like us to believe. The President's job is to defend the Constitution. And Bush has decidedly not done that.

11. Exactly
but I'm afraid that Bush could take both the Constitution and bill of rights and stuff them into the mouth of a white male American baby, wrap the baby in the American flag, douse it in gasoline and light it on fire in the middle of Times Square and impeachment would still be "off the table".

25. Absolutely
And the reason why is that if by chance the votes were there and Cheney and then Bush were removed, Madame Speaker would become Madame President. And that is a title reserved for Miss Hillary. And enough people wake up to that reality, Miss Hillary will not be the candidate.

28. So you're saying that Hillary is preventing impeachment?
Is she also at fault for global warming and Bright's Disease?

Paranoia is a byproduct of being a Freeper. Delusion is another.

5. It is
the duty of the Attorney General to investigate this important issue. If the AG refuses, a special investigation MUST be done by Congress.
This accusation, if true:sarcasm: must be investigated and prosecuted. This definately qualifies as "high crimes" in my book!

8. There is a CANCER on the Presidency, again.
Edited on Wed Nov-21-07 12:50 PM by Krashkopf
Good GOD, this is like hearing Nixon's White House tapes for the first time and learning that Tricky Dick was directly involved in the cover-up of Watergate.

For those of you not old enough to remember, it was NOT the Watergate break in that led to Nixon's resignation, it was his involvment in the cover-up.

This should be FRONT PAGE NEWS on every newspaper in the Country? Call you newspapers and ask them why they are burying the story (if they report it at all).

Call Speaker Pelosi, and House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, 202-224-3121, and DEMAND that McClellan be called before the Judiciary Committee to testify under oath, as to the President's and the Vice President's involvement, and, that impeachment be put ON THE TABLE!

Impeach, Prosecute and SAVE AMERICA!

Krash

10. Fitzgerald has just *got to* have an angle on this
He had Rove in his office several times testifying and allowed Rove to change his testimony to avoid getting charged for a crime himself. Now McClellan has given Fitz more evidence.

I would not be surprised if McClellan already discussed his "revelation" with Fitz.

21. To me it is still amazing that there is not more outrage about this matter.
I guess they have to look into Scotty's book in more detail, what exactly did he mean, etc. However, if what we understand he is saying and it is true, this certainly calls for investigation and impeachment. My god, outing a CIA Agent, lying to the American people to get a war and keeping it all under wraps long enough to get reelected. I can't believe the dems will not pursue this all the way to the end.

30. What about the National Security implications?
While Joe and Jane Sixpack probably understand 'George lied about what he knew' better than 'giving away Plame's identity put us all at risk' ... I still think some of the Dems should weigh in on the implications of the outing, ie, George and Dick's treasonous undermining of Georgie's own "War on Terra" caused by allowing/encouraging the whole Scootergate debacle.
