Source: FrederickNewsPost.com

A 20-year-old man died this morning after a sheriff's deputy used a taser on him to break up a fight, the Frederick County Sheriff's Office reports.
The man was identified as Jarrel Gray of the 7000 block of Gresham Court East by his cousin Tanya Thomas, who spoke to a News-Post reporter.

A fight was reported in the 7000 block of Gresham Court East, near Crestwood Boulevard in Frederick, about 4:54 a.m., according to Cpl. Jennifer Bailey of the sheriff's office.

3. think the point is more along the lines of
why don't these people think before they act, not do they have any feelings.

6. Ok, you got me there. But still,
these damn tasers are killing people for no good reason. The lady in the airport, the man in the airport just the other day and there are other cases including this latest one.

Tasers have to go. They are proven to be lethal.

Why to they have to use the damn things anyway? What did they use before tasers and pepper spray came along? They didn't need to taser that woman or that man in the airports. JUST TACKLE THEM! Like the old days!

4. part of the blame for this lies with the Clinton administration
It was under Bill Clinton that the Department of Justice under Janet Reno collaborated with the defense contractor industry to equip local law enforcement officers with the tools of civilian "order" -- and the literature of that collaboration even characterizes the citizenry as "urban hostiles." There was a huge conference of the contractors and law enforcement; I have a copy of the program and literature from that conference. Janet Reno signed a memo of cooperation between the DoJ and the DoD to work on development of those new tools that would be used to control citizens. Federal money flowed like a river to local PDs.

And so you see police armed to the teeth, dressed like they face a doomsday juggernaut, with a hostile attitude and frightening mien that can exacerbate or invited violence.

5. Why are the cops breaking up a fight anyway?
Just let the fools kick the crap out of each other, then pick up the pieces. I wouldn't get in the middle of that.

9. One taser death should have initiated a ban on tasers.
The fact that they are still being used is seriously troubling. I guarantee these deaths are due to cardiac arrhythmias.

14. Exactly. As someone who regularly experiences PVCs
it scares me to death that a cop might use one of these on me. I have no idea how it would affect my heart--and neither do they.

11. Why are tasers being used on people? Don't we try to use more
"humane" methods to subdue or capture wild animals?
I just don't understand why police/government want
to taser everyone who steps across the line now.
So we won't complain and be good, docile sheeple?

13. exactly. Judge and jury all rolled into the ego of an already
over-militarized police force. Who needs mercenaries when you can turn police into executioneers?

The man in the story above could have suffered from mental illness, or he could have been a diabetic having a reaction?

Tasers are supposed to be a substitute for the use of lethal force, they are not supposed to BE lethal.
