Bush invites Gore to White House Nobel ceremony
Source: ChicagoTrib Swamp Politics Blog

<snip>

The White House announced today that President Bush will host and congratulate Nobel Prize winners from the U.S. on Monday.

No doubt that Bush is looking forward to meeting Leonid Hurwicz, Eric S. Maskin and Roger B. Myerson, who won the 2007 prize for economics. Two of the three medicine prize winners are also U.S. citizens.

But an inconvenient truth is that most of the public's attention will be paid to Al Gore, the former vice president who shared the Peace Prize with a group of scientists working under the auspices of the United Nations for research into global climate change.

The Bush administration has come under criticism for not taking prompt action to control greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming. Chances are if Gore raises the issue with the president whom he narrowly lost to when the U.S. Supreme Court decided that Florida's electoral votes should go to Bush, he'll be leaving the PowerPoint demonstration in Nashville.

3. This is very painful..... for those of us who know who should be in that WH
The Chimp has no feelings so he will probably do some snarky acting out...make a joke about "Ozone Man.." But, it must be bittersweet for Gore...

29. Bush is probably cudgelling his brain, trying to figure out something backhanded to blurt out
Like that infamous " I can't wait to hang it" comment he uttered in front of Coretta Scott King, regarding her husband's portrait. Of course, since it's "hard work", he will probably go for a nap soon and force his minions to come up a clever remark for him. "An' I wants a bunch a' them on my desk first thing tomorrow, even if you smartasses hafta work all night!"

Maybe he can send a really patronizing note saying in essence that he's going to be busy that day fighting global warming deniers.

11. Great, Gore the good guy wins nobel prize for Global Warming
and his prize is to meet Prez. George Bush who denies there is global warming and is sitting in the WH having stolen Al Gores election to presidency.

What's wrong with this picture.

12. hmmmmmmmm. . .
Nobel Laureates in economics. . .?

Let's see. . .* has bankrupted everything he's ever touched, looted the treasury, cost each american family 20,000 bucks worth of debt with the folly of his armed conflicts, lost an american city, trashed the middle class, enriched his cronies only, etc.

Yeah they'll want to go.

Nobel Laureates in medicine. . . under * vets get delayed and sometimes shabby care, stem cell research was squashed, the big pharma cos. and HMO have never made more dough, and more americans have no health care whatsoever.

Yeah they'll totally want to go.

Gore. . . * has rolled back every environmental protection regulation through his disingenuous nomenclature like "Clear Skies" and "Healthy Forests," and guys I know who work for the EPA say they are pushing pencils all day because there is nothing left to enforce. And Kyoto. . .?

He'll totally want to go.

I hope to the Creatrix they ALL boycott this bogus ceremony.

He is in no position to honor their accomplishments at all.

If most or none of them chose to attend. Wishful thinking, maybe- but that would be the right thing to do.

27. Wouldn't THAT make quite a statement to the WHOLE WORLD!
Edited on Fri Nov-16-07 07:43 PM by Karenina
In a populace that had real consciousness of what is necessary for it's ONE CHANCE OF SURVIVAL, that is exactly what would happen.

Accept the invite, then apologize that CRISIS issues in their enviromental and economic activities need their IMMEDIATE ATTENTION.

I can DREAM can't I???

30. plus the IPCC group that shared the Nobel with Gore, also includes Americans
Oh, if some of them were invited, I'm sure they'd be so thrilled to meet George W., who has belittled their work and dumped all over scientific research and education since the day he took office.

33. Actually, I'm warming to the idea
First of all the only person in the room who hasn't won any prize for outstanding work for the betterment of the planet and the common good of all humanity will be Bush. The rest of the people will be in the company of peers. The whole world will notice the discrepancy, especially when the hand everyone will be wanting to shake belongs to Gore. And if he's allowed to speak, which every journalist there will be dying for him to do, they'll hear his message of global warming being a non partisan moral issue and the importance of the US leading the world to do something. What will Bush say when the very fact that he's honoring the Nobel Prize winners shows how important they are? Plus, to add some joy, everyone will notice how short Bush is next to Gore!
