Congress to hold off on Iraq war money
Source: AP

WASHINGTON - Congress likely will hold off on sending President Bush money for Iraq until early next year, pushing the Pentagon to the brink of an accounting nightmare and deepening Democrats' conflict with the White House on the war.

Democrats say the tough approach is needed.

"Everybody knows that the president is stuck in his place, a place where he wants a 10-year war," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said.

This week, the House passed, 218-203, a $50 billion bill that would pay for combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan — about one-fourth of the amount Bush wants — but require that troops start coming home. The measure sets a goal of ending combat by Dec. 15, 2008.

The Senate planned to vote as early as Friday on the measure, although it was not expected to pass. Democrats hold a narrow majority and 60 votes are needed for the measure to advance.

1. Insidious MSM propaganda. 60 votes are not necessary for the measure

to advance.

60 votes are needed to make the measure veto proof. The measure can advance if Bu*h does not veto it. The article does not mention a single thing about the reason for the measure not being able to advance is because Bu*h will veto it.

This article is deliberately taking the onus off of Bu*h and putting it on the Democrats in Congress.

It is a perfect example of the insidious danger of RW MSM propaganda journalism, deliberately omitting key information in order to deceive uninformed readers.

3. 60 Votes Need to Stop a Filibuster
The Repiggies still march in lockstep behind their beloved Bush** and filibuster EVERYTHING that Bush** does not like.

Veto override requires 67 votes, which has only happened once in 7+ years.

2. Good.
No pull out, no timetable, no money.

Let's see if they'll actually do it. (I won't hold my breath, but I like to think of myself as an optimistic person!)

5. A cynic would say the dems will roll
* will have his typical hissy-fit, the media will misconstrue everything and trot out all sorts of feel-good Iraq success stories and patriotic empire crap.

behind the scenes meetings, threats, side-deals and oily maneuvers, and the dems will roll again, and ship off the 50 billion.

I hope it doesn't happen.

7. good...
If bush wants to help hardball, let's play hardball.

And if some Americans feel we're not supporting the troops, screw em. I'm not going to tip-toe around their jingoistic sensibilities to placate their need to continually acquiesce to the Republicans to feel like their being patriotic. I'm kinda tired of having to match my behavior as a rational, dissenting U.S. citizen to what is "acceptable dissent" by the lowest common denominators in this country.

Man...I'm feeling kinda Nietzschean right about now...:+
