Canada orders Taser review after video of death
Source: Reuters

OTTAWA/ VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Reuters) - Canada ordered a review into the use of Tasers on Thursday after graphic video footage emerged showing police using the stun guns to shoot an unarmed Polish immigrant who then collapsed and died.

The video -- broadcast repeatedly on Canadian and U.S. television networks and posted on the Internet -- showed the immigrant, Robert Dziekanski, shrieking in agony after he was hit by 50,000-volt blasts at Vancouver International Airport a month ago.

"I've asked for a review relating to the use of Tasers. ... This is a tragic and grievous incident. We want to find out answers that can prevent these things from happening in the future," Public Security Minister Stockwell Day told Parliament.

Canadians reacted with horror to the images of Dziekanski writhing on the floor moments before he died. Some people complained that police acted too quickly to stun a man who did not appear to be threatening them.

2. Sounds like that country actually cares about the poeple more than having
an authoriarian terrorist org in place for profiteering treating the people like ants.

4. Well...
Stockwell Day, our insane Minister of Public Safety that condemned the use of the taser in this instance, is the same dude who sent agents provocateurs into Montebello SPP protest this summer.

3. the thing that bothers me about tasers is
not that they are used as an alternative to lethal force, but that they seem to be used in alot of sitations where in the absense of a taser lethal force wouldn't even be considered.

5. You misunderstand their use.
Tasers are not a replacement for lethal force. They are an alternative to the non-lethal/less-than-lethal options of pepper spray and batons.

7. Sounds like they should have tried to get that guy a translator
rather than tasering him.
