Obama PAC Helps Local Candidates

WASHINGTON (AP) - Barack Obama's political action committee contributed $128,000 from July through September to local candidates and political organizations in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, key early states in the race for the presidential nomination.

Several recipients of the money have endorsed Obama's presidential bid.

Details of the contributions were contained in a report filed with the Federal Election Commission on Thursday by Obama's Hopefund political action committee. The PAC also contributed $240,000 to congressional candidates across the country.

It is not unusual for presidential candidates to use their political action committees or their own campaign funds to curry favor in early election states, particularly those that rely on intense retail politics.

Obama has made a point of not accepting money from political action committees, but he created one of his own to help other Democrats.
