New suit filed over FTAA street clashes
Source: Miami Herald

<snip>

"The AFL-CIO and the Alliance of Retired Americans on Thursday filed a lawsuit against Miami police and other law enforcement agencies over what they described as excessive force and intimidation of protesters during the 2004 Free Trade of the Americas summit.

The suit asks for ''punitive damages'' and that police be declared in violation of the protesters First, Fourth and Fifth Amendment guarantees.

The suit names Miami, Miami-Dade, Miami Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Hialeah and the Broward Sheriff's Office.

It is the latest in a slew of lawsuits stemming from the FTAA, where thousands of police officers clashed with protesters in downtown Miami."
