Bulgarian troops in Iraq want more pay
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/L09214981.htm

SOFIA, Jan 9 (Reuters) - Bulgaria has boosted daily pay for its troops in Iraq to $80 from $62 after soldiers demanded their compensation be doubled because of higher risks, the defence ministry said on Friday.

The soldiers in Iraq, and volunteers headed to join U.S.-led forces occupying the country, expressed concerns after a suicide bomb killed five Bulgarian soldiers and wounded 64 others in an attack in southern Iraq on December 27.

The soldiers' response to the pay rise, well short of their demand of 100 euro ($128) a day, was unknown but the defence ministry said the offer was final. snip

Earlier this week, more than 40 volunteers withdrew from the mission to replace troops in Kerbala, with many saying they were under pressure from their families.

2. $80 a day? That's chickenfeed
Even if you figure them working only 8 hrs per day (probably more like 12+ hrs, it is a warzone still), thats only $10/hr! You can make a hell of a lot more than that working numerous jobs where you don't have to put up with being shot at on a daily basis!

4. Haliburton contract construction workers
are getting up to $200/hr to work in I-raq.

Haliburton truckers are making $125,000 per year in I-raq (plus travel and per diem and benefits).

and the soldiers in harms way (whatever their nationalities) are getting paid peanuts...

Welcome to the New World Order

3. Maybe they should apply for jobs at Burger King in the Baghdad Airport?
At least it would be safer...and, they'd probably eat better, too!
